We love wheels

Postby huw williams » Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:31 am

I know that many in the club get excited about fancy wheels more than just about anything else in life, so you'll be pleased to know that there is a mega flash wheel test in this week's Cycling Weekly

Tested for speed by pros under laboratory conditions (on track at Newport to eliminate variable road conditions and wind factors) you should get all the answers you need if you're about to shell out upwards of half a grand on sme fancy new hoops.

So, read the test and let the arguments begin :-)

Not too sure about these after reading this report. Would expect totally unblemished hoops for those prices.
I reckon to stick with what I've got and change ALL the bearings to ceramic for next season.

Fastest Tub - Reynolds DV UL

Lightweights only managed third needing an extra 11 watts of power to get them up to speed (48kmph)

Fastest Clincher - Campag Neutron

That's all I'm saying - read the test tomorrow and let the arguments begin :-)

beware some wheel companies just use rims made aborad and then sell them for the market price here, like from places such as http://www.bev-intl.com

They all do. Unless you know of any British rim makers?

I have BEV carbon steerer spacers, and let me tell you they are the finest i have ever used.

fine, Eliot, i am just saying, i mean theres no point forking out more for one wheel if another which is cheaper is the same.

Sorry I should have phrased that (previous post) better, basically what I was trying to say was you should watch out for companies selling the same wheel but at higher prices, so you dont get ripped off. I am not attacking BEV or anyone, I was just using them as an example, of how companies are using manufacturers abroad to maximise revenue and profits by keeping costs down, and relying on the thought that their goods are price inelastic. And I doubt anyone has a British rim they use today, they are either European (except UK of course), Japanese or American and for some reason I think u know that

BEV frames are meant to be quite good as well

thats k, i tend not to convey my thoughts to forums/paper that well, because I rush it, and think about too many points at once etc.
