Separate Mountain Bike Digest

Postby Dom » Wed Jan 28, 2004 1:13 pm

Its been suggested within the MTB ranks to create a separate Weekly ACC MTB digest to the Digest Marco creates to help clear up whats going on regarding MTB riding. Any thoughts/comments/suggestion for content gratefully received (plan is to start from Next week)

Not having been on a MTB for at least two years, not currently owning one and never having been on an Addiscombe MTB ride, I could be accused of speaking out of turn here, but this is supposed to be an open forum for all so here goes.

It's a great idea to keep people informed with what's going on with the MTB side of the club, just make sure that the MTB group doesn't become alienated from the club as a whole and end up as a little clique. That could easily happen it the MTB digest is only sent out to a small group of people. If you start off by sending it out to the same list as Marco's regular digest, people with no interest in MTBs can always just not read it or unsubscribe from that email group. But if you start off with a little group then you could lose people who are only occasional MTBers. Also, as newbies are added to Marco's list get them on the MTB list too.

Slightly off topic, I bought CW last week and noticed that we're still advertising Sunday and Tuesday night rides from East Croydon Stn. If those aren't an every week thing then we should take them out of CW, or change the wording to something like "Addiscombe MTB ride, contact XXX for details", so potential newbies can check first rather than turning up and finding no-one else there.

id be interested in a mtb digest seperate to the other digest.
i ride mtn xc as often as i can and so does my flat mate, she has absolutely no interest in road stuff at all so a dedicated digest for mtb'ers would be perfect for her.
i find the cushtie forum a bit of a mates club but thats where all the rides are currently organised, so it would be a more accessible version of the cushtie forum with all the relevant info and all the clique banter cut out... well, not all cuz some of its funny.

if its done right then it wouldnt alienate the mtbers any more than at present with hardly any mention at all each week.

it would be nice to see a few roadies do some cross training and try their hand at mtn. its really good for building handling skills that can be used later on the road... but thats another subject all together.

who would be in charge of making sure it goes out each week?

In charge of it going out each week, that would be me! For the mo I guess as Marcos got enough doing the roadie stuff. Can imagine that Cushtie and other forums we use can appear abit private as most of it is us rambling on about completely irrelevant rubbish!!

So my thoughts are just a simple listing published each Thurs listing whats being organised for the coming weekend, with some contact details of those leading ride/s , offering lifts etc and maybe also brief details on any planned future trips/competitions.

Distribution wise I was going to use exactly the same list that Marco puts the Road one out to so not to exclude anyone. And then offer members the option of opting out of the Mtb digest mail if its not there thing. It will also be going out to non-members who Mountain Bike with us, not sure how that fits in with the other posts etc elsewhere about members/non-members rights etc but as I dont care (all I want to do is ride with friends) will see how that goes down!.
