Shame Sylv, it is a standard step down reverse thread lockring isn't it? It might just need a bit more "persuading", not sure how much leverage you get with a specific lockring tool unless it has a really long handle. I've certainly seen more than one mechanic use the hammer method. When I do them you do have to give it a fair old whack a few times, it then just suddenly goes and spins off easily.

Lockring Paul. I always use a small flat balded screwdriver and a hammer. Works a treat and you can get it really tight, few taps/whacks on each notch. Only need to get a new lockring avery once in a while if you change sprocket a lot, and they're only about £1 if the shops charges you at all.

Best method I have found is an old fashioned pipe wrench. Grips securely, with plenty of leverage and doesn't damage it.

Sylv, I'll have to go along just to see your rear hub, is it a white industies one? How exactly does it work to adjust chain line and tension (guess by rotating the hub around a bit)?

Yes you are right kieran, although it would be ok with a standard hub on the Klein as it has horizontal dropouts.
I'm not sure I'll be around now though, see previous post - I'll let you know here when I know.
