Redmon Gentlemen's GP

For those who don't know it's a 15.5 mile sporting course time trial where a vet (over 40) is towed round by a pacer (under 40). Gentlemen's as the vet has to stay in the armchair 'til the last 200 metres where he can sprint for the line if there's anything left.

A number of good rides today, and some cracking performances by the super vets - 3 racers are 70 or over

Very pleased with my Dad's ride, was way up on last year all the way round. 2 minutes quicker time and the average speed up from 18.1 last year to 19mph this year.

Terry and Richard would have beaten their 40 minute target but they were "dogged" by very bad luck.

As Ian would say, not my story to tell.

Forgot to mention a big thank you to all the TSN crew (with Hal) who were riding round the lanes when we were racing. They all gave a big shout of support and an "up, up, up". My Dad was very appreciative and said it really helped.

Well the object of today`s exercise was to break the 40 min barrier, which we have been trying to do for the last two years.

Started off ok, the dual carriageway section went really well, every time i glanced at my comp it read 30mph. So very good. Then we turned into the lanes and Richard went to warn me off some mud on the road and his bike nearly went sideways. Frightening.

Managed to stay together up Rusper, just, it seemed that my heart was coming thru my chest at one point-and then onto the downhill section near Rusper golf course. At this point a stray dog ran into the road right under Richard front wheel, he did really well to stay upright. Anyway the dog ran off and we set off again. of course I was massively over geared and Richard was 20yards or so up the road, after swearing and shouting we came back together only for my chain to dislodge, which I managed to put back on without amputating my fingers.

Was really peed off when a roadie team came past.

Anyway quite an eventful ride one way or another, still next year will definetely beat the 40min barrier.

Couple of weeks rest know, and then some winter training.

I can't work out who all the guys are who are over 70. Roy Green looks as he is in his late-50s to me - so he can't be one of them. I know roughly how old some of the others are. By a process of elimination it must be.......Robert Royall-Evatt. Is he really that old????? Last time I saw him, I could have sworn he was a 30-something.....

It's a great event Grahame, well worth doing. It would be good to get as many ACC teams as possible next year, it's quite a laid back event as it's at the end of the season, some tank it round and others just enjoy themselves. Very well organised too.
