And you were drawn to this article because.....

You could have just finished it there and left it as a catch all, saves repeating yourself.

..there was a huge picture on the front page of some meathead with a hideous skin condition protected, but not covered by some gauze dressing. This aroused my curiosity - specifically, I cried "What the **** is that?"

Those that are getting the ferry from Lymington, what time are you aiming for?

(Spoke to Basil at the Bugle yesterday by the way, and he does indeed sound in a tizzy)

Yarmouth harbour 10pm - hopefuly start at 10.30

2 cars will be strategically positioned in the car park

Mine- which is staying put, and the Tunnell's (Ruth is going to drive to Seaview to the half way point on the ride and meet us for lunch. So if you want to use the Tunnell's machine for spares/clothing/food etc they've kindly offerd this as an option

If you're coming over on the ferry sat morning - arrive dressed to ride (suggest using the ferry toilets as changing room) - then you can dump your stuff in the car, have a quick briefing regarding the route and get quickly underway. The race will be netralised until the first climb at Freshwater. I'M KIDDING, I'M KIDDING, it'll be steady :-)

Maps will be provided in case of emergency but the whole official route is signposted and our intention is to stay together or at least re-group at strategic points.

Want to get back for 5 latest to avoid darkness, get fed, few beers with the rugby then, as Mark Bayliss is coming, he'll wanna take us to a gay bar :-)

Thanks Hugh for the information. Very pleased to hear about the Rugby, particularly as it's the final and ENGLAND are in it. Sorry to rub it in Hugh. :(

Bugger you said 11am before, have to re-think now. Am I right in thinking:

- 30 minute crossing.
- Ferrys at 15 and 45 past the hour.
- About 2 hours to drive to Lymington from Croydon (M25, M3 etc, etc).

Grateful also if experienced Wight-ers could answer:

- Parking in Lymington - I was just going to stick it in a side street with no yellow lines. Is this reasonable or is like Croydon and covered in lines and stormtrooper wardens? Other options.
- Footpassenger tickets - I'm guessing just go to the desk and buy one, is this right? Is it near the Ferry departure point or do I need to allow a while to get this? Can I book it online in advance?

Adrian, ignore most of my pm as having now seen this it is largely full of codswallop.

I'm sure this was originally billed as an 11am start. Never mind, as long as the tide's with us on the fery crossing, I'm confident of being there by 10.28am.

Which bit exactly?

I'd say the 9.15 ferry was about right. Spoke to WightLink yesterday, and foot passengers just turn up and get on - the only delay I foresee is getting parking payment sorted. Those machines can be cantankerous brutes.

I think most people are aiming for the 9.15 ferry so I reckon we should just start as soon as we can after 10.30 - last man ready to ride buys the tea at seaview.

You'll be lucky......they are wise to people stopping there for the ferry (and understandably don't like it) so you'd have to stop a long way out.

There is a car park right by the ferry, but I don't know the charge.

EDIT
[quote]There are ample short & long term pay & display parking facilities within the Terminal area.
Charges start from £ 0.80 for upto 1 hour upto £ 5.00 per 24 hours
