Fort William 2004 - mountain bike world cup

Postby rollerskate skinny (sylv) » Tue Jan 27, 2004 12:11 pm

As some of you know, last year I went to Scotland for four days to marshall the men and women's xc races, as well as some DH races. It was a blast to be so close to the action and with hardly any work to do, and I intend to do it again this year.

The website (fortwilliamworldcup.co.uk) hasn't been updated yet but the dates are set to 5-6 June. As soon as the applications for volunteering are out, I will let you know, in the meantime if you are interested and want more details, post here and I will contact you by email (I can't log in as my proper email address here for some reason).

An article and some photos from last year's event should feature in the new! improved! Gazette.

you also have the chance to race on the same course as the pros:

"The UK XC calendar will again be enhanced by the Alpine Bikes World Cup Chaser to be held on Sunday 6th June at Fort William as part of the award winning World Cup weekend.

The World Cup organisers have enlisted Glasgow MTB Club to stage the Alpine Bikes sponsored "Citizens Race", following the success of the 2003 event. There were plenty of compliments after the 2003 Chaser and riders told us how much they enjoyed racing the very same course as the Elite riders. Everyone was amazed to see World Cup winner (and subsequent World Champion) Filip Meirhaeghe join the race at the last minute for a ?warm down?, as well as awarding all of the prizes.

There will be a limit to the entries this year so entry forms should be sent in as soon as possible to avoid missing out".

I have the pdf volunteer application.

email me if you want one - sgarde@clsholdings.com

The 2003 Fort William Volunteer team helped make the Fort William World Cup the best on the circuit - again.

We are now recruiting for the 2004 event. This will be an important year because in 2007 we are bidding to host the World Championships so there will be some close scrutiny of our 3rd World Cup by the UCI as they consider our bid.

Once again we are looking for individuals who have specific experience or who just want to help put on a great event in the Scottish Highlands. Everyone must be prepared to work long hours, whatever the weather conditions and carry out all tasks as directed by group leaders.

All volunteers will receive a goody bag, party tickets, event clothing and either accommodation OR £30 per day worked.

I have attached a volunteer application form in pdf format. If you are interested in volunteering please complete the form and post/fax back to the following address as soon as possible:

Heard from Karen that they should let people know if they're in or not in early April.
