Police Arrest

Postby CaroleH » Sat Oct 20, 2007 2:13 pm

Nearly got myself arrested on Thursday. I yelled at a policeman on a push bike for going over a zebra crossing whilst my mate and I were crossing with the kids. Strange thing is, they'd been stopping all cyclists that had been going through a red light down by my sons school that very morning!!!! The policeman was really aggressive and told me not to shout at him. I told him he was breaking the law!!!!! It didn't go down too well.

Moral of the story - I need to learn to keep my gob shut!!!!

What are you trying to suggest ?

That we are not all equal in the eyes of the law ?

Most Policemen are complete w*****s in my experience, unless however you agree with them 100% and say:

''Yes Sir, three bags full Sir''

I tend to avoind them.

Perhaps you should have gotten yourself knocked over and then threatened to sue!

What grounds would he have arrested you on I wonder!?

Thats funny i've seen people get arrested for walking down the street in Liverpool. They're much worse than the Met, they especially dislike students as well. At a 'disturbance' in my halls last year several people heard one mutter 'f***ing students', which obviously really helped to calm the situation!

Carole,

Why not just complain? Walk in to your local police station, ask to speak to an Inspector as you want to complain. Don't be fobbed off. I am not saying that much will happen apparent to you but there should be a bollocking somewhere along the line internally.

Not only is this an absolutely stupid scenario as far as the police is concerned, what a wasted opportunity for the police. I don't know how old the children were you were with but how about ideal scenario of:

police on bike stop as they are supposed to, engage children in conversation, show them round their bikes, have a chat with the adults and both the children and adults have a better view of the police.

Being a Metropolitan police officer myself Carole, I apologise for their behaviour, but that probably does not help how you feel. SORRY.

Adam, your experience of police may be that we are all w*****s, but then my experience of all students is the same

" go for a complaint, give them a time and place and ask them to use CCTV or internal records "

Slight over-reaction methinks

Take in your stride Carole, and perhaps use the experience to feel a bit more sympathy next time you hear young black kids complaining about the grief they sometimes get from the old bill.

Not all Dominic, your alright, and I know of one other that I like too. Note how I didn't say all policemen are w*****s, but you automatically replied all students are!? Im only saying because most of my experiences with Police comes at night, when im out and about. Now while I understand that this probably isn't the most favourable shifts for you guys, your supposed to be professionals right? And I honestly think that many officers do not help themselves by having an instantly aggressive/patronising approach to people of the 18-25 age group. I would say that this accounts for about 80%. The other 20% seem to have personality and like previously mentioned, positively engage with the perhaps a little drunk, but (mostly) harmless public.

During the "conversation" recite their badge number back to them.
It normally gets their attention.
If he is on his own and you were with friends i.e. witnesses, then he is on very weak ground.

The police work for us ultimately.

Something along these lines I suggest:

"I apologise for shouting at you PC M453.
However PC M435 I and my friend were concerned for our childrens safety.
This was because, PC M435 you were cycling on a *pedestrian* crossing."
