Bec CC Hill Climb

A place to put your results for posterity and to tell everyone what might have been!

Great to see loads of ACC out today and the local Hill Climb events increasing in popularity - both in terms of numbers of riders and spectators. I've always thought they were great spectator events and just needed a modest amount of prize money and some quality organisers. Looks like we've got those now. Long may they continue.

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Personally, I can't complain too much with my result. After a long lay-off, every training ride and competitive event has shown that I'm still somewhat short of my best - especially after throwing a new bike in the equation. Plus both fields had a lot of megastars in there!

Some very respectable results from other ACCers. Similar in fact to the times I did a few years back when I was hill climb novice. Roll on next year.....

Yeah, great photo!

Marco almost looks angry - as though he'll "punish" Aodan if he doesn't win

Yep, so you have a year to train for it. The Catford one's been going for over 100 years I think?

While watching with Jim T he revealed he'd competed - in 1948!!!!

[quote] 'DAN DOES THE DOUBLE'

Hi All,
well as the title says, Dan does the double!! Not many riders throughout the History of the 52 years of the Bec C C Hill Climb event get to wear the mantle of 'Doing the Double' by winning both the Catford CC Hill & the Bec C C Hill Climbs
Dan Fleeman, Blue Sky Cycles, who until today was a 'Hill Climb Virgin'!! In his first attempt at this discipline, not only won both events, but also broke the 12 year old Bec C C Hill Record of 1.44.4 set in 1995 by Gary Dodd, Kingston Phoenix RC with an incredible 1.43.02.
Also I understand he was very close to taking the Catford record as well.

Not only that, but Dan and his clubmates also took the team award, which allowed them to collectively walk away from the Bec event with a cool £2,000.00 between them!!!!!

A tremendous achievement, I think all will agree. 2nd Place Bill Bell, Gemini BC, after dead heating last year with Gary Dodd in 1.49.1 managed to improve to a 1.48.61 another incredible ride, and Robert Gough, Johns Bikes RT, who last year placed 5th in the bec event, came in 3rd with the only other sub 1.50 ride of the day, and recorded a 1.49.92.

All fantastic achievements, as are the times of each & every comptitor who takes part.

I and my Bec C C Clubmates, would like to thank all riders, spectators, the commentator, the timekeepers, mums, dads, and everyone who helps run & support this event. A very big thank you especially toTrish Bloxham at Tandridge council, who once again granted the event the privilege of an Official Closed Road.

Without you all, this event could not take place. We hope you will come back and join us next year,

Regards

Garry Beckett,
Event organiser on behalf of Bec Cycling Club

Hats off to everyone who took part in the hill climbs !

Wow, I don't know who was trying harder at the Bec one - Snoop or Marco !! Either way no one can deny you both gave it your all !

Snoop I think you deserve a medal for taking on all the PCA, Evans and Blue Sky Boys - especially after your Ranmore episode.
Shame Abi pipped you to it for the £10 prize !

I was gutted to not be able to ride yesterday. Too ill to walk along a level stretch of pavement, never mind ride up a 25% gradient.

Unfortunately I spent the day at home - all trained up, kit in bag, bike set up, but going nowhere fast - just snivelling and spluttering around, all
feverish.

I really wanna get there next year - sounds a great event, and those couple of minutes' pain (or is it fame) are a must !

Stu - we definitely missed you. Had you been there and had you managed to clock a 1:07.17 or better, ACC would have won the team prize. You'd also have a won £1,000 first prize and £100 by beating the previous course record by over 37 seconds.

That'll teach you not to mess up your entries next time.
