Chertsey MOD is no more...

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Chertsey MOD is no more...

[quote]More bad news on circuits.

I have been informed that Qinetiq, who run MOD Chertsey for the MOD, have been asked to vacate the site by December 31st.

We will not longer be allowed to use the site as planning permission to bulid houses on the site is about to be given.

So with Dunsfold also under threat of closure for the same bloody reason, is there any proper sprinters circuits left??

I liked Chertsey, only went there twice but it was a nice circuit, and spread out too. Loads of space for cars etc.

Ah well, what can you do?

well lets hope hog hill gets up and running for summer 2008 or Hillingdon and CP are going to see even bigger fields than this year!

Eastway gone and MOD going but record numbers racing, doesn't make sense does it! I'll probably end up doing more commuter racing next year than proper racing then.

MOD Chertsey was easy to get to from London, but I won't miss it, really more a sprinters track than one for me and also crash memories meant I passed up on it for last 4th cat race of the year.

I don't get the problem with Chertsey, the E/1/2s never crashed so theres obviously some muppets about in the 3/4s.

What am I saying, I knew that anyway, hence im so desperate to become a 2nd cat...

Adam you should race the Hillingdon a few times this winter, now that really is a Super Strong sprint where you should be able to start to accumulate some points for 2nd cat.

I used to love racing (mountainbikes) in the rain. Everybody else seemed so demotivated during the race that it was always easier to get a good result.

The safest race I did of the 3 at Chertsey was when it was cold and absolutely chucking it down. Kept all the nutters away.

Shame it's getting yet more houses built on it. I quite liked the circuit, although that really long straight made any breakaways tricky which probably caused most of the problems/crashes. E/1/2 races tending to get splits and the 3rds normally looked pretty safe.

Not if your gears kept getting clogged up

I remember THAT first Beastway a couple of years ago... My race bike had been out of action for a good many months, so I lovingly cleaned it all down, recabled it, replaced the rusted chain, cassette, etc.

All that effort, and then its first use was in a muddy monsoon around Beastway...
