[quote]but has now been cleared for a return to racing.

He hasn't raced since the 2003 Tour.

Er, yes he has... Ever watch the Dauphine? Last year? My word, what a climber, drugs or no drugs!

There are other races than the Tour you know Andrew

Er yes I do Adam you've picked the wrong person to say that to :D , I'm not actually that much of a fan of the Tour as it's too formulaic in it's structure. I much prefer the one day races, particularly the Flandrian, Ardennes, and Amstel Gold. The Tour has lost a lot of the appeal since teams stopped picking a mix of riders (climber/sprinter/GC), although that is creeping back in, and more since it stopped using a lot of the best climbs just to host a ton of free-loaders at the finishers.

I'd forgotten about last year's Dauphine, but that once great race has become devalued in recent years too with most of what would be the big challengers using it for training. Drugs or no drugs the way Astana rode it this year was a joke and showed it no respect.

I still say Mayo is a laughable rider who had a lot of talent bit has robbed his teams blind with the way he has ridden for them. SD were mad to sign him and Euskatel were stupid to support him when Zubeldia always out performed him.

Im only joking Andrew, Im personally more of a fan of the drama of one day races too. I may well be doing Flanders in April, if so i've no doubt it will cast a spell on me!

Perhaps Mayo's inconsistency was an indicator that he was racing clean? Just a thought, I know its probably b0ll0cks but you never know...

Maybe he is innocent, but a victim of the seemingly insatiable appetite of many to discredit every rider who ever won anything???
