Saturday Night meal out

Postby Michelle » Tue Oct 23, 2007 8:54 am

For all those who would be allowed out on Saturday night as well as Saturday afternoon, does anyone fancy a meal out in Croydon?

Keith and I can get to East Croydon in 20 minutes despite living in Oxted, and there seemed to be plenty of places to eat.

Any takers?

Also any recommendations for a good nosh up? I think I may be hungry by that point.

Amy and I will most likely be eating out on saturday and would love to join you

Here's a range of options:

Galicia - Spannish/Tapas - opposite beer circus - don't normally go for BIG restaurants like this but its the only decent Tapas bar in Croydon and very good for larger groups

Tabaq - Indian, down a bit from Beer Circus - (best indian food in the world outside of AJs private caterers) - seriously, miles better than your regular indian

Kelong - South Croydon - Sigapore/Malaysian type thing - massive portions, good quality also an all you can eat buffet for about £15

Boulevard - South Croydon - modern european - South Croydon - very inexpensive - steaks, roasts, calves liver, sea bass etc excellent value and 5 yards (vertically) from my flat

Tree House - South Croydon - small menu but quality - Gastro pub type place - probably need to book soon if you want to go there

New morrocan type place whose name escapes me - South Croydon - haven't tried it yet but we went in the chefs previous restaurant and it was awesome - grilled meats and cous cous type of menu - looks like very good quality

Should be something on there to tempt the taste buds :-)

Everything sounds fantastic.

Is it worth waiting a while to see who is interested and get a concensus?

Personally could eat at all of them. Yum!

Huw and Michelle,

Couldn't help interupting this cosy little couples night out could I?

The Persian/Morrocan restaurant you're thinging of Huw is called:

"Casper's"

No prizes for guessing how i knew that one.

Haven't been in yet but the menu looks appetising and interior is suitably Persian with the carpets adn everything.

As a bit of an expert on all things Casper (Sea, ghosts, etc.) I've been meaning to find and reason to try this place out for a while and Michelle I think you and Keith have just given me one.

Keep me posted of your final decision guys but my recommendation would be "Casper's".

Persian/Moroccan? Hmm, eclectic. On the face of it, there isn't that much to link Iran and Morocco.

There was a great small Italian place called Pizzeria Romana - think it's still there and run by the same people. Small family run place. Dad does the cooking and pops out to chat from time to time. Mum and daughters run the floor. They upped my chianti from the medium priced to the most expensive at no extra cost because they'd run out of the other. :D

You'd have to book as it is very small and popular.

Huw - Is Tabaq better than Planet Spice at the bottom of Featherbed Lane? Naff name but great food, particularly when they have guest chefs over from different regions doing a special menu.

Afraid pizzeria romana is shut as Georgio has finally decided to retire :-(

Haven't been to Planet Spipce but I've been to just about every other indian in the area and Tabaq is head and shoulders above the rest

How inconsiderate.

I can recommend it, although a bit further for you to get to. Highly rated in all the guides - Time Out etc.
Punjab festival just finished.

Hi Michelle,

Aodan and I will join you for a bite too on Saturday. Galicia is quite good -there's the other Spanish restaurant next door to Vue Cinema (can't remember the name) which is ok too if you're after Tapas.
We're pretty cool about which restaurant we go to.

Hey Maria - sorry to hear you weren't well Sunday, missed your boundless enthusiasm, I'm sure I'd have gone a bit quicker had you been there. Shame cos I spent an hour and a half in Pearsons on Saturday bigging you up to the brothers!

Snoop

PS - Galicia is good - pity I can't be there to show off my (ef)fluent Spanish!
