Am off to Gaucho Grill tomorrow night for a big steak to build up my protein and will wash that down with a couple of bottles of Malbec. Will take my daughter swimming on Friday to work off some of the excess toxins from the wine and will then win the race from lap 35 after catching Stu after he has blown up on lap 34.

See you Saturday.

Cheers

Marek....

Stu,

What time are you heading Box Hill way?

As i'm still off work at the mo i've got time to spare and fancy a quick blast up to Box Hill and back.

I might even be able to do a couple of turns on the front if you like after my recent spinning classes have made a real difference to my top end speed when i did my own box hill ride last week.

If not I might see u up that way anyway,

you'll be the blur going in the opposite direction right?

[quote="Stu Merckx Man"]will keith have enough experience?

Just to demonstrate my lack of experience, what's the format for the "A" race? Standing / rolling start? How long, then how many "extra" laps?

P.S. Michelle wants to know the format for the "B" race? 35mins + 5?

[quote="Keith"] what's the format for the "A" race...

Answering my own questions here, found this in the Racing section:
[quote]•2nd & 3rd cats 50mins + 5 Laps
•4ths & Novices 35mins + 5 laps

[quote="Stu Merckx Man"]very gentle spin just to keep the motabolism going,
I prey and hope you manage to keep your mojo or motabolism going whatever that is  [quote]early to the race to get a good warm up, then try and win from 1 lap in
I hope you're joking Stu. I guarantee there's no way you'll ride away on lap one and stay away to win. Unless of course you've now got an FT of 370+ watts and Marek an Co have fall asleep during the race.

Yeah, what does that mean?
2 x 20 means riding at or slightly below threshold/race pace for twenty minutes resting for 5-15mins and then repeating the effort for another twenty minute. Its a great work out for this time of year cause it targets your 'sustainable power' which is the key to cycling endurance events.

Sorry i'm not trying to be glib. It really depends, in a pack 25mph can feel quite comfortable for a fit rider. But maintaining that speed on a solo ride might not be possible for longer than a few minutes for a 4th cat without a tailwind.. 21mph (for about 20mins) is pretty good solo average speed for a 4th cat race.
In a 2 x 20 you'll feel a slight burning in your thighs. Your breathing will be noticeable and rythmic but not quite as laboured - like when climbing a 3 minute hill. You should be able to say a few words but sustained conversation would definitley not be possible.
