Well well well what can I say. That quite simply was a fantastic day. The changes at Hillingdon are fairly impressive a new football centre (Goals) means that you can now have a shower and get a drink at the bar :D ... The ACC crew took full advantage - buying drinks both before (only coffee's  ) and after the race :P ..also we used the plush facilities for our prize presentation ...As far as I'm concerned the best race reports come from those that are racing so I've nothing to add to those excellent reports. Just a few thanks and well dones really :D

Big thanks to Mr Daddy Mack Hogan for helping me to promote the event; Big up to Marek's daughter for waving her normal modelling fee for our race flyer :D :D

Big thanks to Huw for helping out with prizes, presentation, race announcements etc :D

Big thanks to the Queen of Addiscombe Joyce and Big thanks for Andrew Green who possible deserves an award for embodying the truly agreeable spirit. Thanks for all you did yesterday mate. :D

Big Thanks to Paul Tunnel for all the help and advice and well done on an impressive race - so so close 8)

Chapeau to all the regular racers who came out and had a go whether you've raced a lot this season or not: Sylv, Kieran, Steve, Graham, Hal, Mark, Rich and Ajay etc

Well done to all the novices or newbies that had a go yesterday. In truth this event is really about you guys (encouraging more ACC racers!) Chapeau Mo, Michelle (hope you're ok!), Chris, Adrian, Chris k, Dan, Connor, Robbie, Rob, Kasper, John etc etc

Finally well done to the winner, Stu absolutely class mate! 8) 8) Big respect to Keith Knight (excellent stuff sir!) - you made that race 8) and finally Adam after all that teasing and larging it up a podium spot was the minimum requirement. Well done dude!

I can't forget my old buddy Marek well done mate great defence of your title. Are we back in yellow next year? mmmm! 8)

Come on people where are the reports for the 'B' race :?:

OK, here comes one.

A great day out yesterday and a glimpse into another world that provided a real education.

I'd never raced before or even contested a CR sprint, but I have ridden pretty strongly this year in a number of sportives. So my goal was to be there or thereabouts at the death, and then see what happened.

Rode over with Kieran, Mark McL and Ajay, the latter doling out pearls of invaluable racing wisdom all the way. After stopping for coffee and refined-sugar products somewhere in the West Ealing/Hanwell sprawl, we pitched up at the circuit to find several ACCers doing their pre-race thing. I was relieved to find that I was in the B race, and even more so that Chris K was in the A race. At least it wouldn't hurt quite that much

Did a few warm-up laps with Ajay to familiarise myself with the course. Noted that the wind was really picking up and that the back straight was going to play a key role. (Also saw that there was somewhere to have a p*ss, but you don't need to know that.)

Once we were off, my main focus was on getting used to the rubbing of shoulders but avoiding any rubbing of wheels. That accomplished, I then moved onto going around corners as fast as possible without my pedals hitting the tarmac. Check. In the meantime, the minutes had been ticking away without any major developments in the race itself.

Didn't hear/understand/grasp the significance of the announcement of the first prime - just thought people had decided to wind the pace up a bit

Soon, but not that soon, the 35 minutes were up and this injected a certain urgency into proceedings. Insofar as I'd had a strategy at all, it had been to stay close to Mark McLaughlin, whom I'd perceived to be the danger man. But with the race (like the war with Eurasia in 1984) now within measurable distance of its end, I became acutely aware of the conundrum facing any racer: how much pain can you dish out to those around and behind you without blowing up yourself?

With 3 to go and with this in mind I decided to put in a hard stint where it would have the most effect on the rest of the field - into the headwind down the back straight. I was surprised that this afforded me quite a gap, but knew I'd soon be caught - particularly when Toks announced the next prime. Sure enough, back they came  But I'd done what I wanted to do.

A guy from (I think) DeVer wearing all blue then made a jump off the front but this was short-lived and had no lasting impact. From this point on it all became a bit of a blur and I'm not sure of the chronology of events. Michelle, who had been going great guns, crashed out as the A race came past for the last time - looked nasty but luckily she seemed OK as she walked back to the finish.

When the bell sounded I couldn't really tell who was around or immediately behind me - I was just concentrating on staying with the lead group (comprised of the eventual 1-2-3 on the podium) and leaving something for the finish. Unlike most clubruns, where by the time I realise the sprint has started, it's over, I felt I timed it OK but just didn't have enough to overhaul the front three.

So there it was - I came in fourth. All in all I was pleased that I'd had enough to get me in a position to contest the final sprint; just a tad disappointed that I didn't discover some hidden sprinting talent when it mattered. But the whiff of competition had been intoxicating and I was happy that I'd done my best and ridden well. Into the bargain, I'd stayed upright and hadn't caused anyone else to crash.

Great atmosphere as we watched the A race finish and then back in the CH at the prizegiving. Amazing that one club should have enough strength in depth for two good-sized and competitive races on a blustery, grey day in late October.

Huge, huge thanks to Toks, Huw, Joyce and everyone else that worked hard to make this happen. Congratulations to the winners Stu and Graham, and well done to everyone for giving it everything and making it a fantastic day - what a way to bring down the curtain on the season.

Superb race thanks to all the organisers and helpers.

I didnt know how I would feel, so decided to go to the front over the line for the first lap, just in case it never happened again. Thinks got going with lots of breaks and some slightly reluctant chasing down.

Then I have to admit unexpectedly I found myself clear after following Paul T to cross over to Keith K. Wow I was in a proper break clear of the pack. How cool. We started working together, then got the wistle for the prime and I again decided I stood a better change a getting this than ultimate glory. So I held back till we got onto the climb and gave a big effort to get clear of Paul and Keith. Coooool 8) .

This effort had left Paul in no mans land so Keith and I carried on working and getting a nice smooth change over, I did the hill Keith did the windy back straight. I was starting to tire, the wistle went for the second prime but the bunch were bearing down on us and despite attempting to stay away they came past.

After that I joined on the back of the to save energy and with the exception of a suicidal mission to cross the gap to Stu and Keith 2 laps to go I was done.

Well done to all a really vibrant race so great to be so involved, and for Joyce's cake that helped me to cling on to a wheel on the ride home.

Hal :)

I just want to add my thanks to Toks, Huw, Joyce and Andrew for organising a great event.

Adrian - I wish I was as relieved as you were to find that I was in the A race; let me tell you I wasn’t! What a hard ride!

Huw – I got to say you resembled the grim-reaper in a woolly hat standing on the back straight grinning each time I past.

Andrew – Please now feel guilty!

Well done to Graham and Stu on your respective victories also well done to everyone that took part in a great event.

A great day and well done to the winners Grahame and Stu. Thanks to all who organised/helped on the day (Toks, Huw, Andrew, Joyce etc) and ensured that it didn't rain.

I wasn't going to ride but in the end thought sod it, a ride over, race and ride back would be a good start to the winter training. I arrived with Steve just after 1pm and was relieved to have blagged a place in the B race unlike Rob and Dan. I had no plan other than see how it goes.

The initial pace was fairly steady (CR steady as was pointed out). I sat in initially just trying to judge the pace for a few laps and then realised that I couldn't just sit in and would have to do some work. I made a bit of a push and found myself off the front just as the A race picked us up for the 1st time. I decided to wait for the pack to catch up again as trying to go it alone was suicide. Mark McL then did a lot of work on the front and I was struggling for a bit but then managed to do my share of work as the race wore on. We picked up Rob and Dan (or they picked us up) and they also did some work at the front.

As the laps went on I felt a bit stronger and tried to stretch things out a bit on a few laps but it was hard and there didn't seem to be enough strength for 2 or 3 of us to make a break away. Myself and Mark exchanged looks a few times to judge whether we could go for a break but it wasn't to be. Having done a reasonable amount of work with just 2 laps to go I decided to sit in and see what happened at the end. As we approached the bell the guy in all blue made an attack and created a gap. The rest of us just stringed out but he didn't look strong enough to last the lap and sure enough he was snapped up along the back straight and I found myself in 2nd position behind John(?).

On the way over I had been discussing tactics with Steve (his tactics not mine! ) and I had said that going from the bottom corner for the line was probably a bit too early. However, as I arrived at the bottom corner in 2nd place I thought sod it, I'll just go for it and if someone wants to win they'll have to work for it. I dug in and put my head down the whole way towards the line. Initially, there didn't seem to be anyone coming past but my legs started to cramp quite badly. I started to hear someone and dug once more but either the cramping got me or my lack of mental strength  got me as I eased off to let Grahame through and then lost 2nd place as I freewheeled the remainder to the line. As I said to Steve, going from the bottom is too early! Still, fair play to Grahame, it wasn't a gift, a deserved winner.

A great day and certainly a better result than I was expecting. I can already hear the call of the Palace :D .

Good run back with Paul T, Andrew etc, we certainly didn't hang around and I was pleased to arrive home before dark as I had no lights.

a quick thanks to Toks, Huw, Andrew and Joyce for the day and to others who helped out and or donated prizes. A nice day out on the bike and a welcome shower afterwards.

I enjoyed the race but didn't see much of the main action as I was at the back most times. I knew I wouldn't be 'race fit enough (not having raced since July and missing most of the club runs, including the last 2 I wasn't under any illusions of grandeur) to be competitive but early on I had one go on the front down the back straight and that told me my best hope to finish the race was to stay off the front! When the prime went about half way I cramped in my efforts to keep up and then took extra care in efforts to conserve my energy. Near the end i took a turn on the front of the chasing bunch as by then I had not need to save energy as I wasn't going to be contending the sprint even for 5th place and watched the guys sprint past for the finish line.

Anyway, it reminded me why i liked racing and especially in small fields.

Thanks again to the organisers and to my competitors (not that I was much danger to them) for making a good race. I look forward to next year's race hopefully with George, Paul H ( & Jon ? will he be back by then) and Tony??

Thank you Toks, Huw, Andrew, Joyce and all the helpers for making the event happen. We seldomly get the chance to show how exciting racing can be and to get an opportunity in front of our friends at Hillingdon made it an inspirational day for me.

On Georges recommendation (ta again George)I saw Brian Simpson and with his help I am now regularly training, not now and again but when I want to. The seasons gone but I got the whole years frustration out yesterday. It was just such a brilliant race to be part of. You just never knew who was going to go next and who was going to win it. Well done everybody it was tough enough.

Thx I could not be more pround to get the combativity award and again Congratulations Stu a very well deserved win. To see it go to one of our most improved riders was the icing on the cake.

Forgot to add - thanks to Sylv for tearing up the ride home - he obviously didn't try hard enough, and Andrew (I didn't race so I just thought I'd ride at the front for a while) Green - you made sure that I suffered with cramp in both legs all evening
