Great ride; sunshine, dry roads, 5 "evenly" matched riders, wicked cake at Fanny's. What more could you want?

[quote="Marek"]dropping Paul H and Keith on the flats

There aren't many flats on the hill back round Box Hill. Think you've got gravity on your side Marek. I have become a bit of a girl (Ow! slap from Michelle for that comment) since falling off on a fast descent a few months ago.

[quote="Stu Merckx Man"]worth waking up at 5 am

What the heck were you doing Stu? Choosing your socks? The rest of us fell out of bed 10 minutes before getting on the road.

One particular bit sticks in my mind though. Hammering along the flat with the autumn sun behind me, casting the shadow of 4 riders perfectly tucked up behind.

Postby Michelle » Mon Nov 05, 2007 10:34 pm

Two snots here.

Snot No 1. I am still full of the stuff and its in my lungs and now I have flu symptoms and a massive headache.

Snot No 2. S'NOT FAIR..........so this means I still haven't been out on my bike since Hillingdon, have even had to have the day off work today which is unheard of, I can feel the muscle wasting away ........and you lot are all out having fun on your bicycles........see....S'NOT FAIR!

Ps I got on the scales last Monday and then again Friday of last week, and had lost 6lbs........... Granted I heiffered it up a bit with roast lamb on the Sunday evening before, but still, is that normal?

Morning Michelle, Nurse Jo here. I hope you are beginning to feel better.

The weight loss is likely to be partly caused by dehydration,

Making SO... much mucus and fighting whatever lurgy you have will use up loads of your bodies hydration. The dehydration and the paracetamol you are probably using to keep your temperature down will also most likely be causing the headaches.

Drink lots, then drink even more, and get well soon.

Hope to see you back out riding soon
Joanna

Thanks nurse Joanna.

I'm pretty sure it isn't dehydration as my pee is nice and light-straw coloured. Plus am drinking at least 2 litres water along with other tea and coffee etc etc.

Perhaps it is the muscle..........wasting away..........ARGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!

You girls and your extreme diets - I don't know.

A word from your nutrionist - Losing weight at the rate of 1lb per week is about the ideal. Anything more than that is usually not sustainable (ie you'll put it straight back on).

Also - In a control group of elite athletes - weight loss upwards of 1lb per week was concurrent with significant loss of muscular endurance and power. The more weight lost in the shortest possible period - the greter the fall-off in performance.

So get yourself straight back down the Indian young lady and quit these ridiculous weight-loss regimes - You're a role model for other women in the club you know :D :D :D :D :D :D

All an irrelevance as I don't even own a set of scales, let alone weigh myself...twice a week! But Huw how can anyone judge losing weight at 1lb a week, surely that is such a small amount that it could be accounted for by any number of other factors - amount of water in body, when last meal was and what it was, and that's without mentioning the other way to lose a few pounds quickly  .

No it wasn't on purpose - I lost all my weight last year as I got hacked off always being at the bottom of the hills at the Redhill CC club runs. Now whose laughing !!!!

Point taken though, curry tonight and lots and lots of beer! Yum.

Generally our eating regime is even healthier than Stu's! Lots of fish and veggies and fruit and brown rice and pasta. Lots of wind too..........parp. Did you ever wonder why Keith goes so fast!

HEHEHEHEHEHEHE :!:

I'm quoting from a study by a top sports institute using a control group of elite athletes. I won't bore you with the protocol but essentially it was a highly controlled diet under lab conditions for several weeks - eliminating real-word fluctations in weight likely to affect you and I in the shape of curries and beer etc :D

It worked fro me from the end of September through to January, I gradually shed 1lb a week. True enough some weeks it varied and went back up and others were a bit more of an effort, but the average was consistent.

That was specifically reducing calorie intake by 500 a day = 3500 a week, = 1lb fat.

It works. :D
