lol

Tour of Qatar is a bit better, cos the island so small you can ride to every stage from the same hotel.

Bahrain is smaller and better though and are bidding for the world championships, but the no. of laps would be through the roof.

Was considering this, but then looked at the dates.

At the last count we will be doing the following:

Sunday Feb 17th - skiing and snowboarding
Monday Feb 18th - skiing and snowboarding
Tuesday Feb 19th - skiing and snowboarding
Wednesday Feb 20th - skiing and snowboarding
Thursday Feb 21st - Keith's birthday and - skiing and snowboarding
Friday Feb 22nd - friends arrive in resort for both our birthdays - skiing and snowboarding
Saturday Feb 23rd - more freinds arrive in resort - skiing and snowboarding

etc etc

So I am sorry to say we will have to miss this one!

Mmmm skiing

I don't know anyone who skies and snowboards though ... do you do a bit of each? Or is one skiing and the other snowboarding?

I can't snowboard ... but will be cross-country skiing on the 24th Feb - for 90km :D

Sylv can you teach me how to cross country ski?

Were off to Switzerland but because of my neck I can't downhill this season, so this is all I can do, is it any good for cycling training?

Sure George- it's what a lot of pro cyclists do in the winter to keep fit.

Good legs will help you heaps but you also use upper body a lot, which shouldn't be a problem for you.

It's a bit weird at the beginning but if you ski downhill you should pick it up quickly as balance and pushing technique won't be a problem.

I've only started 3 years ago and only had about 60km training before the first time I did the 90km Vasaloppet race.

THe one I do is "classic" ie in tracks with no "skating".

Of course it's not as much fun as dh skiing, but it's a full workout and you feel more satisfied after a good session.

Not sure how I could teach you here, but could run through the theory at least! I heard they had roller-ski sessions at Hillingdon in the winter ...

Hey Sylv

I ski and Keith snowboards. We have managed to wangle quite a while off work so are going for Feb and March next year to Tignes, Fench Alps. In fact have rented an appartment (aka small box) for the whole season and we go in three weeks to take a car full of kit down and get the keys and set up.

Loverly!

I would love to do some cross country. What I really want to do though is to get better at off piste, and maybe threrefore do some ski touring. I guess Keith would put snowshoes on then carry snowboard on his back and he could join me! Good for the aerobic tramping up all those snowy mountains.

Hmm, bit strange as I still have my cycling head on, but I'm sure I will get into it soon! :D

Try this for Aerobic:

About two years ago I took my eldest daughter when she was 3 skiing in Switzerland. Well, she skiied in between my legs, but she could not/would not go on the ski lift back up the slope.

I had to carry:

1. My skis and poles
2. My daughters skis
3. My daughter, with ski boots on

Up the hill, thankfully it was only about 500 yards or so, but it felt like I had been hit by a car after I got home carrying her up and down a few times was murder. So, if you really want to get fit you are very welcome to take my kids away on holiday with you.

Cheers

Marek.....
