17 November extended run

Postby Marek » Sun Nov 11, 2007 10:49 am

After the success of 10 Nov hillier and longer club run was thinking about the following for next week:

CSS for 9.00am to 9.30am, as it seems that 9am is just a fallacy for most of the ACC riders as was only about 5 of us there at 9am this week.

Anyhow, enough of my timekeeping rant, onto the suggested route.

1. Follow club run out all the way to Rusper. Just before the football ground we turn right and head on up towards Ockley. The sprint points competition starts here with the sprint for the Rusper sign.

2. Over the roundabout down the dual carriageway and take the left towards Ockley.

3. Follow road down past Ockley train station. Go to the end of this road and then turn left.

4. Turn right almost immediately before the big green and follow this road along for a couple of miles. Second sprint point is the top of the first little rise after the right hand turn. Then take the right turn up Leith Hill a mile or so further on from sprint.

5. At top of Leith Hill points competition for King of the Mountains then turn left and follow road until descend back onto road with takes to Abinger Hammer.

6. Turn right at Abinger Hammer then left up White Down for second set of KOM points.

7. Right at the end of the White Down road and follow all the way up towards the Church.

8. Turn left and descend down the ACC Hill Climb hill.

9. Turn right at bottom of hill and follow road all the way to the main road which then brings you out at the bottom of Box Hill.

10. Box Hill for 3rd KOM points have a cup of tea on the top at the National Trust place.

11. Normal hack back to CSS through Kingswood and the like. 3rd Sprint point will be on the main road coming from Box Hill at the signs along the fast road after the two little climbs and then it is at the bit with the white gates on both sides and a sign for the village, cannot remember name.

I will probably turn off at the Dual Carriageway and then descend down into Merstham. Keith, you may want to come with me on this part, but I will be going slow from Merstham.

Remember it is not a race  , but points will be awarded down to 3rd place at each sprint or KOM point and we can tally the scores up as we go along.

Cheers

Wow sounds like a great ride Marek. I'm definitley gonna be there... No on second thoughts I haven't ridden for two weeks now so I'll be there just in spirit...My money's on the club Road Race champ to bag all the KOM points, unless of course The Gradient Master has made that jump to 5w/kgs

i went out with paul today and he was beating me up most of the hills. my legs were feeling tired from yesterday though. i think paul must be a good recoverer, and on the real steep climbs like chalkpit paul seams in his eliment. but if the climbs are longer and slightly shallower they might suit me better...it could go either way! :D

cheers marek- it looks like chinese will be the order of the day (on friday)

I have better Muscular Endurance than Stu hence why I can take him out on the steep climbs.

I'm lacking a bit of aerobic and FT fitness so not so good on the shallower ones. Ive been taking it easy recently unlike some of the late season points harvesters. I'll need a few weeks to get that back just in time for Mr 400w return.

Not sure the points thing is a good idea.

The shallower climbs seem to suit me a lot better than the steeper ones, so Vowels lane and the climb from Weirwood reservoir were good for me last weekend, but anything above 8% and gravity takes its toll and my bulk basically gives up. Probably a mental thing as well, basically if it looks hard I kind a give up.

Next weeks has White Down and Leith so good training for you mountain goats so am expecting you to kick my butt, but I ain't going to let you have the points, I am going to do my best to get them all.

And Paul, the points thing not being a good idea, you sound like a beaten man already, excellent look forward to kicking your butt. And yes I think I am a winter racer, but to be honest I don't care, take your morale victories while you can.

Cheers

I never have a "beaten man" attitude. I was not sure about the points in case it got too racey and everybody starts sitting in.

See you on the road.

Yep, you probably will, I will be the one chipping off into the distance while you are sloping off in the background. I hope not to see you on the road.

Who are you, are you the one that died a thousand deaths on Vowels lane, or are you the one that had a good go on the climb out of Weirwood, but kind of gave up towards the top, as it was 'a little bit too far for a young nipper to exert himself'.

See you on Leith where you can eat your own shorts.

Cheers
