Club Run Report 10 Nov

A Place to idle the day away talking about anything you fancy. Expect to find cycling and non cycling topics inside

Postby Amy » Mon Nov 12, 2007 2:13 pm

Hi, Jon, sorry don't accept that excuse. I've led a group on at least one occasion having forgotten my speedo and I just made sure the person riding next to me told me what we were doing

You were on the front when I gave up shouting

I agree that there is a bit of flexibility in the average speed but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence to move up to the next group when you think they'll be doing the same! My thoughts is that if you find it easy to keep up with say the 17s, you think about trying the 18s and so on...

Those of you who were cycling in the cycling heyday of the 50s may remember that the captain used to ride with a bugler beside him to give orders to the clubrun - any volunteers :D

Jon, get your lazy backside out if the 17s you sandbagger. You were a 19s regular not so long ago.

Amy - You'll have to be a bit less subtle than just shouting at Jon, he's a Millwall fan.

[quote="Seanieh_Taipei_Posse©"]The weekend before Andrew and I had the 18s doing over 22 avg on the road to Merstham.

I think it was about 22mph yep, which may have been a bit quick for some who prefer an easier start and build the speed up later on, but I was on fixed where I tend to ride a consistent effort with the terrain determining the speed.

Unfortunately this was the week of the ridiculously large group which I think caused the problems, not the speed - exaggerated domino effect at lights etc.

My average to the cafe was 18.3mph. 8) :D

10th November CR.

Postby John Czernobay » Mon Nov 12, 2007 5:57 pm

Hello Girls and Boys and another great CR. :)

A big thank-you to Huw and Tim for arranging the groups and making sure we were all away before 9.30am, that's excellent :D especially as it was a little sharp weather wise.

As for that 17mph group who averaged 18.3mph we know who you are and next Saturday you will form the "chain gang" out via Boxhill and there's no tea and cake if you don't  ; but seriously in smaller groups the communication is better, you can share the workload and we are a better advert for cycling in general :) and of course for the ACC. Believe it or not even in the Super 15's we do sometimes come across the other groups but we ease off 8), what's the big deal  ?

Please feel free to step up a group, don't be shy  , I know it's not something we are use too but don't worry, your be amazed at what you can do . I wouldn't want to be in a situation whereby we only have say four 17mph groups but all averaging around 20mph :?

See you Saturday for another Agreeable CR.
JohnCz.. :) .
PS. Average Speed: no idea; tea and walnut cake in the cafe and the ride back with Jim:priceless.

Ah yes, good fun that.

Personally I think its quite good, but only if everyone consents to attempting the catch the other group. Its good motivation. CONSENT IS REQUIRED THOUGH

New CR Schedule
:!:
9am - All arrive
9.10 - 22 mph av - Training grp
9.13 - 21
9.16 - 20
9.19 - 19
9.21 - 18

9.27 - 15

With c12 max in each grp

'so its not rocket science to work out that if you don't want to ride any faster than dead on 18mph, go in the 17's, simple, I've just worked out the answer to the ultimate question . Brilliant' :?

Sorry, Steve, I promised I'd say no more but there's a flaw in your otherwise brilliant logic - there's now no 17. see above

Cheers

Thats not the only flaw, the other one being that most people seem to be having a pre club run natter and coffee in the surrounding cafes prior to the ride and hence most of the rides don't seem to get going until 9.30am which is a lot of hanging around if you get to CSS at the advertised time.

Cheers

John the old'un said

[quote]If what you want is a training group or chain gang, then I'm sure that can be arranged.
We already have a Training group which attracts the really fast men (and girls), but maybe some members would like a slower training group.

YES PLEASE. I would be really interested in learning all the stuff that the training group do before having to get fast enough to be able to get in that group. In my case it would take about a year for me to get that fast, and if I want to race for the Addiscombe next year then I need all the help on tactics, through and off, where and how to attack, team work etc etc etc I can get.

I am sure that some of the other Cat 4 and newbies would love to learn a whole load of stuff from some good racers without having to pay a Surrey League coach some money and not learning very much. It's not just the women that race at a slower pace you know.......and there is such a resource in the club.

I am gonna post this on the training bit as well so it gets picked up by as many people as possible.

With you in spirit if not in person

I was in the first wicked 17's and it was not Amy's group that was the issue as if we were going too fast how were we caught. If I recall correctly the message we got along the line was to speed up to seperate the groups but that was not truly sensible(but I love a challenge as does jon, connor, robyn and the usual suspects). It was a great run but everyone is upset if anyone is badly dropped but I'm not sure that was the case

I'm with the tall good looking feller on this one  . I'm very happy to go in a group and put up with a touch more mph - what I don't like is getitng to CSS "on time" and waiting around cooling me heels fer half an hour. Haven't you slow pokes got anything to do when you get back home?

Don't get me started on timings  I normally find myself explaining to newbies that it may say 9am but...

And yes, when I saw that about a 'slower' training group - that's what I want :!:
