rob- trouble is they would a want commitment. i dont really want to commit to anything.

they would tell you when your racing, when your not, what you can race, what you cant. id rather choose when i want to race and what i want to race.

id rather not be as fit as perhaps i could be with proffessional coaching at something like in gear, but be able to do what i like race wise at addiscombe. also now there is a good team spirit among the regular racers at addiscombe which makes it all the more enjoyable.

and with the south east team and john barkley there is pleanty of opportunity to race on the continent next season.

I concur entirely with an earlier comment made by Paul - even as someone who once left ACC to go and ride elsewhere.

Like most riders I want to be part of strong, stable set-up. I'd also like to see some 'return' for ACC on any advice, guidance and other support that I provide. I'm sure most others experienced riders in ACC are the same.

Also, one or two posts on this thread have highlighted the merits or supposed merits of other clubs and set-ups. I would highlight that Norwood Paragon (sorry for swearing) currently have a really good RR squad and have no ties or sponsorship at all. ACC has a good team spirit and is improving rapidly. Over the next couple of seasons, I really think it is going to be a fun place to be.

I think you've hit the nail on the head Stu. Unless you think you are going to be a pro, and are prepared to commit fully to it, then what ever club / team you ride for, you're doing it for the love of it as an amateur.

What's the point in riding for a development squad if all it does is rob you of your love for the sport. Simply it suits some and doesn't suit others.

Tony's spot on too in that the RR is become a growing baby at Addiscombe and you can't run before you can walk.

Anyway enough pseudo-psych sh1t, good luck next year Adam. I get on with the TSN mob so I expect I'll still talk to you  .

New bike...I'm guessing Cervelo then. Better than a "Pony n' Trek". 8)

[quote]Quite simply you're alluding to the fact that the training group "hang on if you can" mentality and just do your best when racing neglects team tactics which would possibly ensure better results

Bare in mind the training group only came into existance last winter and it produced a very successful season for ACC. We did also employ team tactics which worked especially well for me with the exception of one early race.

The training group is not exclusive. Anybody can join us but they will find it hard to start off with and they will have to do some training during the week. This didnt put off Stu who used to get dropped on a regular basis. As I said before, I think a handicapped training group could work well.

There was a regular training group 4 years ago as well, but people go on to do other things in their lives.

At least we can rest assured there will still be some good-natured piss-taking on the forum :)

Ie: Paul H you planning to clean your bike for 2008? I'm sure you'd gain about 5W with a clean chain.

Like Ian said, not true dude! When I joined in 2003 there was a training group, I think it kinda faded in the 2005/6 season  [quote]We did also employ team tactics which worked especially well for me with the exception of one early race.
Not regularly and systematically! And that one where the Dynamo guy sat on and knicked it in the end was a real stinker![quote]The training group is not exclusive. Anybody can join us but they will find it hard to start off with and they will have to do some training during the week.
Damn you guys just ain't gettin it!...Most people will give it a miss and won't bother trying. Yes there are a few hardrocks like Stu but thats not typical. Secondly the pace wasn't that furious when Stu began. Even me and Matt could keep up with not too much trouble back then and all we'd been doing was twice weekly 2 x 20's:wink: [quote]This didnt put off Stu who used to get dropped on a regular basis. Perhaps, but not week in and week out![quote="The Road Race Champ"]no one should worry about getting dropped from it. its meant to push you hard! AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That approach only encourages a certain type Stu and there's not enough of them around. If there was you'd have 30 people in the training group. Its an enormous jump in fitness for most wannabees.

Take the example of Yohan who a couple of years ago was flying he couldn't get nowhere near you guys. Who does he train with? He's typical of most strong newbies. What happened? he never raced at all last season despite bagging 3 points in his one and only race in 2006.

Observing from my armchair, I agree with Paul that the training group was one of the reasons why the club was so successful in the early part of the season. Riders enjoyed it, it incentivised all the competitive guys to get better so they could beat each other. I'm not sure who organised it, but whoever made it happen deserves a lot of credit.

If aspiring racers are getting put-off there needs to be a route them too. But I wouldn't advocate changing the training group if that's what the the racers enjoy and if it is working.

Here here Tony thats the concern I was trying to address [quote]But I wouldn't advocate changing the training group if that's what the the racers enjoy and if it is working
Nope! Neither would I. Those guys should keep going.

All I'm saying is that people who are not at that level need a bit of help afterall its not as if the training group are going to be slowing down

Not everyone is gonna make it into racing via the training group especially as the pace is often faster than a 3rd cat race! :D

oh i think i get it now toks

how about a 'training development group'  for those wanting to start racing next year, or for less fit, or less experienced racers, or for anyone who wants it. kind of a go between from the 19s/20s to the training group. a group to try and nurture would be racers into competative, fit, experienced riders for when they race? but without the kind of cut throat if your dropped your dropped kind of thing, that kind of thing?
