ACC Racing Plans For 2008

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

ACC Racing Plans For 2008

Postby Toks » Mon Nov 12, 2007 5:20 pm

Hey dudes rather than simply racing where ever and when ever (nothing wrong with that by the way :D ) would it be an idea to also target some specific races where we as a club want to do well in. Perhaps 10 particular road races including some stage races. I'm talking 3rd and 2nd cats here really.

The idea being that everyone can plan to be bang inform for these races. If say George/Stu or whoever is our leader in a stage race then we can do our best to make sure they have a winning chance. If there's an ACC road Race in April that would perhaps be a good target to start with. What do you guys think?

I'm not suggesting that anyone should sacrifice not moving up to the next category or trying to win a race by the way. Without a plan I know its quite easy to just drift through the season with no race targets in particular. With more than three years of riding under my belt specific targets would also encourage me to train a bit harder. :D

Sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe better to sort this out once the race calendars for next year are published. Are they out yet?

13.04.08 Brenchley 1,2,3 90km 09:30 Brenchley M/H

20.04.08 Chilham 2,3.4 90km 09:30 Godmersham V/H

Ok then chaps, the SERRL calendar is out, so unless these conflict with anything that Surrey League bring out, these look like the first two serious races of the season for us to target. Ok, race number one is a first cat race and is quite hilly, but aim high and you never know what could happen. Good training for the race the week after anyhow. I think we should have a go, what do you reckon?

If you fancy it we could even work on riding down to the course one Saturday and check it out. Not sure how far that would be, so maybe investigate that first.

Cheers

they look like good races to target. remember guys that 1st cats are 'only humans' (in the words of paul h) so we should all be fine!

oh, that's ok then.
I'm a 4th cat and human, so basically the same as a 1st cat.
Have I got that right? :?

I've definitely ridden through Brenchley on a training ride from Croydon before, so it's easily in range for a training ride at some point over winter. I'd suggest waiting until the days lengthen somewhat first.

Chilham sounds vaguely familiar too - but I can't place it currently.

Personally, I'm unlikely to do much (if any) road racing next year. I may do the odd race and see if the mood grabs me again. No problem doing a few training rides, mind.

exactly colin

but in realistic terms, if you get fit enough it doesnt matter if your a 4th cat or a 1st cat you could still do well in a race.
