ACC Racing Plans For 2008

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

I am doing this http://www.letour.fr

The plan is; that with the advent of the bio-passports, pro cycling will become frozen, allowing me to compete (because nobody else will see it coming)
:D :shock: :?

Maybe I've been watching too many movies and too much tv?

Marek, unfortunately, for them, I dont think they are.

They obviously hope to last three days getting a kicking from the creme de la creme of the domestic pro's.

It will however, be interesting to see how they get on...

Can I confirm that this is a proposition to ride a Premier Calendar Stage race? :?: :shock: :?: :shock: :?: :shock: :?:

There's lots of reasons why I would suggest not riding this event:
1. It's a Stage Race; if you get dropped, depending on the race rules it could be game over very quickly;
2. Expense and Logistics; stage races are logistically very difficult to organise - unless you plan to travel each day. However, this will tire you;
3. Have you sufficient experience of riding 80-100 mile races (assuming that's the length of each stages)?
4. Have you sufficient experience racing with the elites? Lots of second cat riders (and many first cats) do not do well against them!
5. Have you sufficient stage-racing experience? Recovery from day-to-day is very important.

I'm all for people broadening their horizons - but there's more appropriate places to do this - e.g. local E12 SE Series races, the SL Jaunts (for cat 23 stage racing) and the SL Revolutions (for local E12 stage racing).

I don't want to do anyone down - but this really doesn't seem sensible to me!

:roll: er... good luck in the Tour Of Wessex stage race dudes! - the 2/3 race Marek mentioned would be a good acheiveable starting goal for all for Team ACC :D

It has been discussed as a posibility along with some other races.

The worst that can happen is that we get dropped - nobody will die.

They are only human just like us.

There is nothing wrong with going beyond your comfort zone.

If ones of us finished (George?) then that would be a great achievement.

People who are thinking about going out with the training group should consider all the above as well.

I agree that George could consider riding Premier Calendar races next year. However, he needs more experience racing the local E12 boys first.

I don't think anyone else in the club rode any E12 events last year - so I don't see how anyone could be considering riding at the level above that. Having said that, I'm confident that the other talented and committed riders in the club could get to a standard where they can ride local E12 races next season - but that's still a big step below Premier Calendar standard.

The approach should be to ride several, local SE Series Events first and see how you get on before considering Premiers. The SE series is specifically designed to help riders bridge from strong 2nd Cat status to the national events. They are much easier than the typical premier calendar field too - so you need to be looking at an easy finish in the top-10 in one or more of these races before taking the next step.

I'm all up for getting together and targetting races with a team perspective, as I am not the best at setting myself goals a long time in advance.

Don't mind doing work for others either.

Me too - although as a road race newbie I'll be sticking to the less ambitious events...

Need to get to Cat 3 first though, which I hope to achieve by racing at Palace next year. I've wanted to have a crack at road racing for the past couple of years now but never got past doing a few 10 mile tts. I'm still a bit nervous about racing in a bunch but I'm sure I'll be fine.

That 24h race sounds intriguing. I've never done any real enduros before though, so I have no idea what I might be letting myself in for...

Speaking of 24h events but in a fat tyre context, I might be able to make myself available for Mountain Mayhem and/or the Bontrager Twentyfour 12 next year, if enough ACC members are interested in putting a team or two together...

wal, palace is probably the hardest place to start racing, even in the 3/4s!

it would be much easier doing it in a 4th only race at hillingdon. bit of winter series perhaps?

Problem is, I simply can't make it over to Hillingdon mid week. Even getting to Palace is going to take some advanced planning.

In principle I should be able to hang on to the 3/4s. I did several CRs with the training group in the summer, and last year I did a 23.08 on one of the 10 mile tts at Holmwood...on an ordinary road bike, riding in the drops i.e. sans aero bars.

I just need to learn race craft - I'll be seeking advice from the regular Palace racers on that...

I know others have started their racing at Palace and got along fine, so I'm sure I can do it!
