What have been the Best years...

of your life so far - starting from your 20's After Adam reminding me that he has another 20 years until he is 40 in the five poster thread i started thinking!

20's: wild and wreckless of course - lots of ladies, no sport, fast cars, clubbing, etc I was skint in my early twenties but seem to have loads of dosh (relatively speaking ) in my mid to late twenties 20's.

30's: early on -became a dad, rediscovered sport (football cycling), bought a house, found my vocation, steady relationship blah blah.

40's: early days yet, pretty good so far

well, I was a bit of an introvert in my teens but happy with it.

Then 20's came about, in University in a big town (Dublin), drink, d**gs, clubs, gigs and pubs (no sports as yet), unemployed for a good while so lots of free time to hang around doing nothing with friends but the above in our crummy flats. Later in 20's moved to Glasgow, same story, but started swimming a good bit thanks to the excellent public pools. Then moved to Lancaster and finally got even more into sport fitness, took up running, bought a cheap road bike, did more swimming (up to 5km in one go in the pool, how exciting) and even some gym stuff. At end of 20's moved to london and became a Dad.

30s has been all about family and dropped running, swimming and just kept cycling for commuting.

In many ways I really loved my mid to late 20's had a bit of sense, some money, no responsibilities, lots of friends in a similar situation. It all went when family started and moved to London. I was jealous of my twin brother who also moved to Glasgow and could still keep to this lifestyle as no responsibilities (still none unless you count a dog).

So far I have enjoyed both decades, I consider myself (our generation, generation X?) very lucky so far.

I'm guessing a few grams of coke must be cheaper there than London?

'Fraid the Dublin I knew is mostly gone now, when I go back there is little left, most of the clubs closed down or changed (as they do everywhere). Most of the pubs have become gentrified (for the tourist trade) as money has flooded into Ireland since the celtic tiger took off - it hadn't started by the time I left. Friends have started families, fled Dublin or gone their own ways.

You'll need to hook up with some younger dudes

p.s. I'm sure Toks and others (Huw, Graham etc, racing MTB in the early years must have been good fun - I'm looking forward to the biography to come out sometime) in the club were probably much worse given the better oppertunities available in London in the eighties/nineties compared to Ireland.

model:race This baby rides like it's on rails. A single track supremo that handles like it's an extension of your central nervous system. I LIKE. I'm talking about the pre Trek version - not sure what the build quality is like post-take over but when Kieth was doing the welding the results were bomb proof. I ride with an assortment of guys with VERY expensive steeds and yet they all want to hev a go on my Bontie. I'm usually happy to oblige but some times I have to pull them out of the saddle when I want my baby back. BUY ONE. And no I'm not on commission.
