Where's the Best Place to Rent in Croydon? (Non-Cycling Qn)

Postby Tony » Fri Nov 16, 2007 6:34 pm

Folks,

Interested in getting a bit of advice, not knowing Croydon all that well..... If I had a budget of £1,000 per month where would be a good place to rent in Croydon - i.e. high quality accommodation, easy walk to East Croydon station, convenient for shops, etc.? Which are the best agents?

It's not for me - but to help some work colleagues....Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony.

As Marco suggests, Park Hill is a great place to live (I lived there for two years), near to East Croydon and still very green, even saw a whole Badger family outside my front door there once. The only thing is that some of the rents are pricey due to the location..

Totally unhelpful info :

Many years ago I worked on a site not far away in Stanhope Rd, the developers only got planning permission on the condition that they cut holes at regular intervals in the close-board fencing they errected to allow badgers access to and from their sets (badgers sets are often 100s of years old)
Once saw a badger strolling down Chatsworth road towards the Law Courts.

BTW I also worked on Tavistock Gate when it was being built (although don't bother complaining to me if you have any problems)

I live in a Wates flat and although not always the best build quality, sporing bricks and some non-standard sizes on fittings (not a problem for renting as the landlord would have to get any repairs etc done), there is nothing bad in the build quality. The flats are also very well designed with every nook and cranny made good use of, this is very handy in a flat where storage space can be limited.

I'd expect there will be plenty to rent as the flats sell very quickly, often to managing companies wanting to rent them out.

The Badgers are now at the back of my garden (behind the fence)

Park Hill is great, because then you live near me, and Lloyd Park

Until recently I lived in Chatsworth Road, which was just brilliant: 7 minutes walk to East Croydon station, 5 minutes walk to GB Cycles (and the South End pubs & restaurants :-)) and 10 minutes walk from town centre. Driving north on the street you can't turn right at the end, so it doesn't get any through traffic. A pretty decent neighbourhood, really, and can't be beaten for convenience of location.

I think it might have been problems with the badgers

My flat was on the small side, and I ran out of space for my bikes and associated paraphernalia. And with the bairn on the way I had to either give up cycling or move to a bigger place (the suggestion to convert the garden shed into a nursery and keep the bikes in the flat didn't go down too well).

Always got along fine with the badgers; occasionally they would stop in for a coffee on their way to the law courts...

Yeh, I've never had any problems with badgers either
Well, not after I realised that they don't like being being prodded with a coffee spoon

And I like to put this video on for them - it always cracks them up, it does.
