Rollers at the Clubroom - 12th December.

Postby Andrew G » Tue Nov 13, 2007 3:32 pm

Roll up, roll up, the rollers are coming out.

Forget Rapha the real roller action is Agreeable!

There was some interest in having a go on the rollers that the club owns.

I have arranged for a rollers evening at the clubroom on 12th December.

This will be a run what you brung affair. You can ride your normal road bike, although if you have a fixed wheel machine bring that.

Guru Paul will be on hand to provide guidance and knowledge as an experienced roller rider. Do not worry about balancing on the rollers as you will be held upright by a couple of beautiful assistants.

Tea/coffee and cake available so you can also stuff your face to replace the calories burnt on the rollers, or just stuff your face and watch others if you like.

They are competition spec rollers so we could have a mini club competition after everyone has had a go, for those interested in testing themselves against the clock or a clubmate.

Hope to see you there - a rough idea on numbers would be handy so please let me know if you think you might come along. Also feel free to ask any questions (pm me if you don't want them public).

Cheers,

Andrew.

Thanks for the Digest post and map link Sean.

The clubroom is the Methodist Church Hall (at the back, you go up the entrance to the right side of the front) where Sean's arrow is.

This is worth going to as it is very exciting and you get to see some very strange facial expressions:

Okee-dokey folks, seeing as I didn't stop at the cafe longer than to wring out my gloves on Saturday I didn't get a chance to give a reminder.

The Rollers evening starts at 8:30 pm on Wednesday at the clubroom (see Sean's link to where the Methodist Church hall is).

I would be grateful if someone (or two) can get down at 8:15 to give me a hand setting up.

Plan of attack (subject to change if advised otherwise from wiser heads):
Each person get up on the rollers in turn to have a bit of practice and get used to what it's like. I imagine most people, like yours truly, have never used them so will need a bit of acclimatisation before giving it some welly.

Then we have a run through of everybody (if they want to get back on) for a timed "competition run", although very much a light hearted competiton as gears etc may vary depending what bike you use.

Remember you can use your normal road bike for this evening but Paul has said he will bring a bike too. I'll also have my fixed wheel there which people are welcome to borrow.

No idea who is turning up so it could be 2 or 20, but hopefully a few to make it a decent night.

We will need people to help hold riders upright when it is not your turn so when you're not on the rollers you may be needed for a moment but we'll rotate as much as possible so you can still enjoy your tea.

Thanks,

Andrew.
