Sidis are a very good well made shoe, but too narrow for my feet. I was in Pearsons one day not intending to buy shoes, but spotted some Norhwave ones and they fitted like a glove, Would love to have a Boonen pair for Xmas if anyone is so inclined.....

The Northwave are definitelly a wider fit.

Any decent make will be a good shoe if it fits well.

Sis do also have a wider last to make shoes for the UK market. Ask about their "Mega" range. Not too many shops stock them, and they may have to order them in for you.

Having said that, I'm in the fat feet brigade as well and find my Sidi shoes to be very comfortable and long lasting. Like Sylvain I have some going back over 5 years that are still giving excellent service.

Likewise have fairly wide feet (never got on with Shimano shoes) but am fine with normal Sidis.

Need some replacement sole inserts for my mtb ones, seems not many places have them?

They go well with Black socks.

black shoes with black socks is a crime that is almost completely unconscionable.
It gives me cognitive dissonance just to think about it.

I have high arches, which gives similar fitting problems to wide feet, but I find the Sidis are fine.

Does anyone have any tips on cleaning white shoes though?

Remember, there are only three things to consider: (1) Can you - or Santa - afford them? (2) Are they comfortable? (3) Are they bling enough?

Those shiny Nike jobs are an affront to good taste. I can't imagine how awful they must look with (heaven forbid) black socks. And of course, the only item of clothing which should fit like a glove is ... a glove.

Hey Stu

£100 will get a good pair at Butlers at Xmas ... Fit is all though... and there is only one colour - white ...

I have the Shimano Custom, which are great - like slippers, and the new R220 are semi custom too, and they come in white (waiting for my pair soon) but there are only a very limited selection of shops that have the oven and vacuum pump (On yer Bike at London Bridge has one and charging £15 for fitting) ... The Shimano Custum ones are very, very good though ...

Lisa has White Sidi ergo2 which she loves, and they fit well too, white obviously, but can't get on with her Shimano R220s ... All to do with fit ya see ...

Another small tip - go later in the day, after a bit of a walk and your feet will swell during the day, and due to the general unforgiving nature of cycling shoes, if they end up being too small at the end of the ride, they will cripple you :(

Also haggle with Butler for the ACC advance sale (you can usually twist their arm to get your added discount before Xmas) so you get a full choice of sizes and you are not climbing over everyone in the sale.

Nike's are a very narrow fit, and a patent leather finish  . This isnt't Strictly Come Dancing.

Thank you. Mr. Locke needs some lessons in this as he persists in turning up in what look like the socks you had for school  .

[quote="Andrew G"]Yeah depends on the shape of your feet. Some are way too narrow at the front for me. Specialized get my vote if they fit you. Very comfy, light (with the carbon sole), and the body geometry insoles are very good.

Second that for the Spesh. I tried the Pros in Evans the other day and have them on my Santa list from Butlers, along with some Look pedals.

About time I upgraded to proper roadie shoes and pedals from my mud-spattered mtb ones - save a bit of weight and at least look the part!

Only thing is to try them on, see what fits.

Check out GBs, I got some superb carbon-soled Northwave Revenge on Saturday for about £70, reduced from £99, (more comfy for me than the specialized as very slightly wider)

Did not realise we get 10% discount with ACC membership - they have our membership cards ready & waiting - so picked up some nice Keo Carbons too to go under the tree.

Say what you like about internet shopping, but nothing beats good advice in a well-stocked shop.
