Anyone know what is going on here?

Is one of the hardest men on a bike trying to keep his hair dry?

Is one of the fastest trying to plug the holes in his helmet?

In fact, why are most photos of procyclists together SO camp? Who tells them to drape their arms round each other? Check out the photos of the team launches on the net and the photos of the young USPS lads in Cycle Sport this month.

What's going on with the helmets is all to do with the UCI introducing compulsory helmet wearing in all UCI events including individual time trials. So the pros can't wear head fairings anymore because they don't meet ANSI, SNELL or whatever standards, and the best that the helmet manufacturers have come up with so far is taking their regular helmets and blocking up all the vents.

that will explain this too then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so basically to achieve the pro tt look this year we need to place our helmets inside the clear plastic binder sleeves, then place both in the oven for 5 mins untill shrink wrapped. Allow to cool, remove from oven and use plastic safety scissors to cut out a hole for our heads to fit in underneath.

Either that or hollow out a bowling ball, paint it silver and write Rabobank on the front.
But, over here our time trials are run by CTT and UCI rules don't apply. So we can carry on wearing head fairings, wooly hats, cloth caps or whatever we damn well want to. Except for juniors.

So this is the future of British aero head safety.

Also the 'only' (?) current aero helmet available for juniors to tt with.

i think boardman had one a bit like that when he did his athletes hour - like a normal one but with the shell missing the holes as if they had not been cut out -- i think although the bike design was determined by UCI helmet wasn't at that time so he decided to compromise
