Ms Average

Huw - I joined ACC in July - not really into clubs before then. Have spent this year trying to get fitter for my October trip cycling in the Himalayas (CTC holidays) - which went v well.
At the mo when I can make club rides I seem to be very comfortable in the 15/16s group - the pace feels a little too relaxed (mostly) so I think I could possibly move up a group.
No definite objectives for next year but I don't want to lose the benefits of the improvements I've made to my fitness etc this year. Would love to ride the Etape and a few similar things if only I can improve my speed and stamina.
I'm 45 - not quite a spring chicken anymore - and would also like to shed half a stone which always helps on the climbs.
Apart from cycling - since beginning of November I've been swimming quite a bit at my gym and have got a few 4 mile runs in - it's hard to get out on the bike when it's dark after work and weather awful. Considering going on Thu night rides (off road) with Bigfoot Bikes to keep up a bit of mid week cycling.

Mr Apples' ride to Canterbury was anything other than "average"

Just done a quick calculation - average time for London Canterbury (men) was 7 hrs 46 mins, putting me at 7'58" ie well below average (spent over half an hour looking for butter to spread on the malt loaf at each feed station). Actual riding time was 7 and a quarter, but still well behind Hal and Toby's warp speed completion of that "flat" stage of the Tour.

Average for women was 8' 24".

It quite simply has to be super ajay. You've got every angle covered Huw. A plodder, a family man, an entertainer, a sage, a joker, a training phobic; he needs to shed a couple of pounds; he needs structure; he's likely to waver and cyclingwise he's a in a minority group all by himself (damn! has anyone else ever seen a british asian male cyclist?) me thinks blah blah blah I could go on forever oh and plus - I love the guy :D

Grahame maybe we can take Toks to mean he's never seen an asian male cyclist, maybe he should get his skinny bum on a CR then :D .

OK - the judges verdict is in for this

AJ is going to get the treatment for Cycling Weekly but we thought there is so much potential for good development feautures amongst those who came forward that we want to take three more subjects who's training we'll oversee and monitor in the 4 Health and fitness supplements we'll be doing in 2008

we're currently in the process of picking which three and I'll get back to you asap

Thanks again - ACC is proving a wonderous resource for the pages of CW and its much appreciated

No pressure then, Ajay.
It's just that if you don't get 3rd cat after all this training and coaching, well.........

You would get my vote any day Ajay! I would always back an aspiring Mr Average.

The question has probably been asked already but is ther a Ms average to keep him company?

I don't know what he's so smug about - his life is about to get very difficult

Remeber that 3rd cat status is only a stepping stone - we'll need him to go beyond that

And when you prostitute yourself in a magazine there are any number of riders lining up to take a shot at kicking your ass. Just because they see you in a magazine they think you must be half decent and they like nothing better than to kick your ass - happens to me all the time in sportives - "ere, you writin' this up for the comic? You're not all that, I'm gonna kick your ass!"

AJ will have to get used to having his ass kicked

Keep an eye on the forum for the book which will soon be opened for high stakes gambling on how he does.

Odds so far

Complete failure to finish the programme using family commitments and excessive chapattis as an excuse - 4/7
Attain 3rd cat by July - Evens
Attain 3rd cat by July and continued imrovement to end of season 10/1
Attain 2nd cat by September - 500/1
Attain 1st cat by September - 5000/1

Anybody want some of that action get yourself down to Ladbrokes
