I think that. Should it not be "Sports biggest achiever of the year?"

I think it harks back to a time when anyone who appeared on our television screens was referred to as a 'television personality'.

Personality-wise, I think sports people have always on the whole been quite boring - what's changed is that there's a microphone under their chin 24 hours a day now. In other words, they're as boring as ever they were - we just get to hear from them the whole time now. :(

Previous winners include Nick Faldo and Nigel Mansell so I think we can safely rule that one out.

I almost threw my beer at the TV when the team award was announced. Both Scotland and England deserved a mention but to not give it to the team that won 7 world titles is frankly, bo**ocks :x

Good point - and having interviewed hudreds of them I can confirm that pro cyclists are amongst the worst.

Given the amount of dedication they have to appy to their sport its no wonder that they have so little else to talk about - most pros have been riding at a high level since juniors so they have little life experience ouitside of the sport to draw on for interesting conversation.

Rasmussen was a good example - he used all his free time between racing/training to 'further his education' by learning languages - last time I spoke to him he was fluent in seven and a fair way along the path of learning an eighth which was Mandarin Chinese. Didn't have much of interest to say in any of them mind you

I hear he often mixed his Italian and Spanish up from time to time though

Easily done. Spanish appears to just be Italian with a lisp. I can see how somebody might forget which country they are in  which continent might be a little more difficult, though
