Hillingdon - 15th December

Postby Rob C » Sat Dec 15, 2007 5:55 pm

Three top ten finishes for Addiscombe again? Quite possibly, Rob T was 5th and I was 6th. Keith wasn't far behind. Well done Michelle for getting there and racing. A much larger field then last week so a much more worthy result. Rob T now has 10 points. I have 8, will wait to see the final results for Keith...

Excellent stuff lads and lass. 10 points makes Rob T a 3rd cat now, and you'll be there very soon at this rate.

I was 8th according to the video.

Found the race a bit frustrating. Got into a couple of promising breakaways, but nobody seemed to want to invest effort in staying away.

Well done to the lone break-away rider. Wasn't a big attack, we all just let him break off the front. He was chucking his guts up at the side of the track just after the finish line.

A lot of work for 2 points. I've still got a lot to learn!

Well done to Michelle, in there with the bunch at the finish.

The goal for today was not to get spat out of the back like the poor lass last week that Keith told me about who got lapped on the 4th time round.

Goal achieved :D - think I came in about 24th or 25th out of 42 initial starters - we lapped about 6-8 of that lot.

Pretty hairy in the bunch at times, lots of squeezing to get through the gaps and quite a bit of shouting at each other and doughnut calling. Surprised there wasn't a crash back where I was - surprised there weren't 5 or 6 crashes

Wasn't too knackered either, if better placed could have gone for some points.

Like Keith says, have a lot to learn.

Was interesting at times, no one at the front wanted to take the lead over from Keith and others. Couple of breakaways, couple instigated by him, but when the breakaways got caught and slowed down, the whole group slowed. :?:

Ended up being more like a track sprint, and bunching the whole group up causing alsorts of mayhem in the back and middle.

Anyway I'm well chuffed and have been humming happily to myself all afternoon - la la laaa!

Cheers Stu! Nice to get some encouragement really, am growing my own big cohones (easy Sean!) in order to race with the smelly boys and I think it may have to be a bit more elbows out in the future.

But I reckon it will get me some experience and maybe even make me a bit faster in the end.

Or maybe thats the nice carbon bike :!:

Well done Michelle, shurely they don't all smell :D .

I've never raced at Hillingdon, although I'll get over for some of the later winter series races, but from what I've read in the past they often end up in bunch sprints meaning a lot of riders will want to sit in all race to save themselves for the finish. The same used to happen at Chertsey.

Keith I think Palace in the spring will suit you more as you're a strong rider and your efforts for breaks will pay more dividends.

Very well done again you 4th cats and Michelle a superb ride. It is easy to forget some of you guys are so new to this because you've got competitive straight away.

The E/1/2/3 race was much better for me this week. I felt good right from the start and when it calmed down after the intial skirmishes I attacked with McManus. We were away for 4 laps and as it came back together, silly bugger me went again only to get a monster from Sigma come past really smooooth and we got the gap but I couldn't hold him. By the time the bunch came up I was totally recovered and ready to go. The race was a goodun, loads of attacking and brilliant fun but could not keep away. Anyways it all came to nothing and I finished in the bunch. BTW the young Cardiff Ajax rider was particularly fast and smooth. Oh yea and Paul Pickup is still recovering from being knocked off by a van, not that you'ld notice he has any injury at all, it was only his ribs!!!!!!!!!
