Message for Ajay (and beginner racers)

Postby virek » Sat Mar 13, 2004 8:21 pm

Ajay,

It was nice chatting to you today in GB's shop. I think it would be good to get together to ride a few races this year at Hillingdon as you suggested. Now that you're experienced I would like to leach some tips etc from you.. :)

Perhaps there are a few other agreeable beginners that would like to meet and try out racing together at Hillingdon this year?

Things I lack and would like help in: Training tips, eating tips and racing tips/experience. Doing this together wth other "not quite Lance Armstrongs" would be good for all of us and the ACC.

Anyways, nice talking to you and thanks for your advice.

Cheers.

Matthew

Monty: Got the specs sorted in the end, no problem. You'll see them in two weeks when I finally get a prescription done for them. My eyes are fsck'ed!!!

I'll be a race rookie this season, so I'm definitely up for this! However, my first race was due to be Hillingdon on Saturday 20th March but I got hit by a car yesterday so I may be out of action for a bit, and then I'll need to regain my fitness again

Phil,

I know how you feel. I smashed my chin open in Stockwell commuting to work a week ago and my ribs still sodding hurt :x

I can't blame anyone else though :( I slipped round a corner, oops!

When you start getting back into it perhaps we can coordinate a few training sessions together, eves getting lighter and all that?

I'm in Sutton and I've been scouting around and found a few decent hills nearby. I'm thinking of getting a circuit together to take in Box Hill and 3 others near Woodmansterne and Kingswood. All nice country type roads not too much traffic.

Should be a combined climb of about 800 - 900 metres or so.

Hey Virek, do you think you'll be ready to start racing at the beginning of April? I spoke to Super AJ on sat and I get the feeling he won't be ready until May. My first race is on April 6th at Hillingdon... it would be good to get as many addiscombe 4th cats (men and women) in those tuesday night races at Hillingdon....Phil!! keep your head up mate! Remember even if you don't ride for a week, because you have built up a huge number of base miles since october, you're fitness loss is gonna be negligible.

Peace, Toks

Toks,

it'd be nice to give it a go on the 6th even if it'll just show how far I have got to go.

What'd be the best things to do between now and then? I have ZERO race experience, but I'm happy riding in the Club Run bunch and doing the through and off.

There's gonna be people that can advise you better than me, but if you're doing thru and off on saturday's that gonna help. You also wanna do some time trial efforts at least once or twice a week - say 1 hour or 1/2 an hour as hard as you can manage with out blowing up. The 'thru and off ' on saturday went off at a terrific pace. It went from 22mph to 29mph in about 2 mins - if you we're one those guys hats off to you!. You'll be a third cat in zero time

Yeah that was me going off at that rate...only kidding :)

I had to rest my bruised ribs this sat, so didn't do the club run and did a couple of local hils instead. It still fsck-ing hurts (hats off to Hamilton).

When you say time trial efforts do you mean blasting up and down local roads for an hour or so, or did you have something specific in mind?

Time isn't on my side unfortunately, what with work in Canary Wharf and and hour commute from Sutton its dark when I get home, although summer will change that. I can try racing a few buses but thats a little dangerous

Hi All,
I want to start racing this year, if only to use it as fast training. I'm going to be sending off for a Licence this week.
I work in Pimlico and clock off at 4pm, so would be up for a few training rides during the week.
