Team Kits...

Postby -Adam- » Wed Jan 02, 2008 12:16 am

So, its that time of year when all the new team kits start rearing their heads, and everyone says... urgh, horrible!

Then by the time the tour rolls down the old Champs, everyones grown to like 'em!

So it got me thinking, what are people thoughts on the best looking team kit of all time. And I don't care about any of the scandals, or riders who may or may not have tarnished the jerseys. I just want peoples thoughts on the pure aesthetic value of the design!

As a starter, I reckon the US Postal incarnation of 2004 was pretty nice. Although of course, nothing comes close to the beatuty of the white, black and orange. Mind you, when TriSportNews.com 2008 is revealed, designed by someone you all know, you'll be begging for a replica!

Any ONCE kit I have got most of them but the early yellow ones are my favourite.

I'm with Marco.

I had the old la vie claire and used to have a z-peugeot winter jersey which was well cool....

They are a little more discreet on the sponsorship logos than the current jerseys...

Of the current jerseys, I think that the iles balaers is about the best...

The picture above is a good one. Given how strong lemond looks, I think that hinault has a right to frown...

I always liked the Banesto kit, and was most upset when they cut my replica jersey off me in casualty. If I'd been conscious I'd have told them not to.

The first jersey I had was a La Vie Claire one, even as a kid I could appreciate the Mondrian styling.

Of the current crop I like the Milram one as it has classic uncluttered look, and of course with the AG2r one I can have my initials on my jersey :D . In general I prefer the older designs as they were cleaner, there are too many logos on these days as all the suppliers (pedals, saddles, bars etc) need their name on the jersey which I think actually defeats the point as they all just get lost in a graphic mess.

I always liked that for its sillyness, the "denim" shorts were great.

I've always been a fan of the Liquigas kits, i like the bright green and blue combination.

Yes the old Astana kit did have a certain charm to it, I have to admit!

See this is why I put the caveat in of ignoring any scandal ascociated with any team!

Don't worry Sean I'm not slipping. Black shorts it is for me. From the watching on the tele point of view the Carerra ones were quite funny.

Astana was horrible, almost but not quite as bad as the Gerolsteiner one. Sky blue jersey and shorts, it made them look like they were wearing a babygrow. Look at a picture of Leipheimer in it - he's short and bald and the effect is just magnified to great comedic effect.

The Skil one is nice, fom the Kelly vintage. I'd get one now except the co-sponsor is Shimano, and there is no way I'm wearing a jersey with Shimano emblazoned across is.
