It's not the only one he's won, which is more than can be said for when he's on a bike. A vote for abject blandness. He always seems to come across as a real miserable so-and-so so it can't be a popularity vote.

I think Cancellara was rider of the year. You should not only have to win some races but also do so with a certain style and attacking verve. Evans never attacks, and Cancellara's ride off the front in yellow to win that early TdF stage was quality, took you back to the Hinault days when even having won the tour he still wanted to win the final stage and out sprinted everyone on the Champs.

The Ajay award for wheelsucker of the year, maybe :twisted: . But "Cyclist of the year"? Surely not. I'd have thought there were several better candidates including our own triple world champion and Sunday Times star.

They probably gave it to him on the basis of - "If he hasn't won anything, he must be clean"
