Maths Genius Required - Impress Your Friends!!

Postby Snoop Doug » Thu Jan 17, 2008 5:47 pm

So - I'm sitting there, night after night on me turbo trainer, slowly getting faster. It occurs to me that when all I could manage was a 20mph average, the maths for working out the time to complete a TT was pretty straightforward. Now, I did get a maths O level but that was back in the days when Oliver Twist walked the streets of London. These days, I'm struggling with anything more advanced than how many beans make five.

My question - How quickly (he he) would I do a 10 or 25 TT if my ave speed was say 23.5mph? is there a formula you can use to easily work out how an improvement in speed of x will result in a reduction in time of y over 10, 25, 50 and 100 miles? Apologies I may be being exceptionally dim here but a) it wouldn't be the first time and b) my head hurts

A beer or three for the best (read easiest to understand yet at the same time correct) answer at some future Addicombe social. Cheers - Snoop

About 1 hour 4.

Is your coach going to be happy with that though?

Yes we know you did a mid 22 last year Adam  . You've got age on your side, wait until you've knackered your body a bit in a few years :D .

25:28 last year in the ACC Open 10 - Standard road bike and normal wheels (no fancy Zipps  ) with a silly hat. Don't know what difference that makes but it helps hold my glasses on which is why I use it. Be interested to see what I do this year with a proper TT bike, it had better be quicker.
