Jon look who's going  I don't think they will be hanging around! The Tunnell train only knows one speed and that's quick!

Completed last weeks 85k event from the same location - they were running the usual 3 timed groups of 3 , 3.5, and 4 hours . So long as you pick the right group most of the riders keep at a consistent pace .

I'm riding over from Clapham this Sunday for the 100k if anyone is interested in joining me . Will be leaving Clapham South at 7am

I am quite happy to stay at a sensible pace. With the ride there and back and the event, we will be looking at a 90 - 95 mile ride in the winter. As a result, I think its a good idea to take it steady over there....

Does anyone know the best way...Was thinking of heading thru Orpington and down towards Swanley ?

Jon...Just come along...These things are quite good fun and a good way to see folk from other clubs...

Route to Horton

Postby EdO » Fri Jan 18, 2008 1:23 pm

I've got a nice route through the lanes from Orpington via Eynsford which we can take. The roads should be quiet at that time of the morning though so we may be better to follow the main road.

Anyway I'll come up with two routes for the group who are meeting outside West Wickham baths.

You have to ride through the ford at Eynsford, it's compulsory. 8)

Just checked my route on the map for the first time and it's a bit of a random zig zag. Pretty but not the most direct route so may need refining.

....from the back of orpington

chelsfied lane
left into skeet hill
then parkgate road
right onto well hill
left onto firmingers road
right onto well hill road
redmans lane
then castle road keep left
left onto station road
then eynsford high street
then eynsford road
straightover eglatine lane
straightover lombard street

It doesn't take in the ford but goes past the village of Eynsford. If anyone has other route then please pipe up.

I know an easier way to well hill. Straight out on the A21 then turn left when you get close to the motorway. Think its the A224 junction..

I think its quite easy from there. Just go over Well Hill and down towards lullingstone park...

Tunnell train???!! AAAARGH! No chance!

I normally ride the 17 mph CR - what was I thinking!? completely out of my league!!

still don't quite understand what I'm letting myself in for - what sort of ride is the bexley reliability ride? how fast? how long? an earlier post mentioned different times groups. 85K in four hours? - even I could cope with that.

let me know.

Cheers

Jon don't worry about them, if you ride in the 17s you'll be fine on any reliability trial.

There are some fast guys and gals out there who use them as early season race prep, there are some fast club riders who may have a blast round, there are also a fair few who use them more as they used to be and just have a nice ride around the countryside. It's a great way to see new bits of the near countryside that you don't always ride in. Addiscombe or not you'll find some people of a similar speed and can have a good ride round with them and a good chat.

This Sunday's is run by a club that has a lot of tricycle riders so you'll probably see a few old fellas going round on their trikes :D . Don't laugh though as some of them are still pretty quick.

If you ride out with other Addiscombe riders you can always arrange to ride back together as well. So long as you don't go round hours slower than everyone else, and I'm sure you won't, you can meet up at the HQ after. They'll just have a chance for an extra cup of tea and cake than you that's all.
