Had fun at Goodwood today. Did the 4 up TT, although we had 5 in our group, Luke, Dave, Daren, Paul T and myself. We worked reasonably hard for the whole circuit but tried to leave something left for the races later. From my watch we did about 1.02.45 for the 38.5km, not too bad considering we were holding back and there was a bit of wind blowing across the course. Unfortunately Dave pulled some muscle and was unable to take to the race, get well soon Dave.

Onto the race, I did the 4th Cat race. Started off slow and I just sat on the back of the peleton. Did not want to do too much work at the front as had done the TT. The pace was very comfortable and due to the experience of the TT I knew exactly where to sit in the peleton to gain the most from the drafting. At about lap 7 of the 13, half of the peleton started to speed up, I decided that I should probably stay involved with that therefore moved up to the back of the faster group. A lap later and a quick young lad shot off the front, and then another guy who looked strong started to chase so I went as well. The three of us worked together well and we made a reasonable gap.

A couple of laps later and a few other guys caught us and therefore it was a bit of cat and mouse. On the final section of the race the three of us who had broken earlier broke away again and it was down to a sprint, I got past one guy but did not have enough left to get past the other guy. Pretty happy with a second place, although now means I will have to up my game for the 3rd cat races.

Cheers

Chaos on the results sheet! Myself and Brian Tidy got a superb top ten place in the 4th cats, which was remarkable because when we started the race we were third cats. Luke finished a dissapointing 19th in 4ths, also remarkable because he certainly finished ahead of me in the 3rd cat race.

I haven't seen results as unlikely as that since Llanelli beat the All-Blacks in the '70s

There were more groups out there than Glastonbury!

I am happy they got the first riders in correct, if I was a fourth cat coming in behind you guys I would be very disappointed if I had my points lowered or taken away by some third cat vets who had started the race about a minute ahead.

As you rightly point out though it was chaos. At one point in the race I got overtaken by four riders, I caught up with them and had to ask if they were fourth cats, only to be told to f off as they were elite and first cat riders, the guy I asked thought I was taking the mick out of him.

Cheers

I had to point out to Keith Butler what had gone wrong and he's changed the results - I didn't want to deprive any points off 4th cats by a results error.

Similar thing happened to me - got dropped from the chase group of six riders in the 3rd cats - then tagged on to a group of first/second cats who had been dropped by the break in their race. This 1st/2nds group were going considerably slower than the lead and chasing 3rds group because we got caught by your group (the fast 4ths) who had already gone passed the main 3rds group which had more splits than the Labour Party! Chaos!
