First time

Soooo.... new here. I'm planning on trotting along to the run on saturday and I had a few questions!
I'll be coming over from Oxted, does anyone else come over this way? ride over? drive over?

I did 60miles in 3.30 (incl. cake stop :)) last year, and I don't think I'm particularly slow! but I'm totally new to the skills of riding with a group. Do I need "L" plates? :D

You'll be Ok.

When you get to Coulsden South Station, introduce yourself to Monty (club captain) and the Vice Captains in attendance. They will be having a little side meeting at 9:15am to sort out who is going to lead which group. You will be asked what sort of speed you are happy with and what bike experience you've got. Which group yu should go out with will then be suggested.

As a club, we don't encourage anybody to go out with the faster groups (18mph average and above) until they have got used to how group rides work. So, either the 17mph average group (probably with me), 16mph group with Monty, or 15mph with John will be recommended. If you find you have bitten off more than you can chew, let the group leader know, and (s)he will assign somebody to ride more slowly with you until you either get to the cafe or another group (going slower) catch you up.

See you on Saturday.

Hi Orv,

me and my hubby Keith live in Oxted (well Hurst Green) and we normally cycle over to Couldson South on Saturday morning. As luck would have it we will be racing on Saturday so not out on the club run (well I am, Keith is not sure what he wants to do yet). And then we are having some time off. So....don't know why I am posting this cos we are absolutely no use at all.

Oh well, there is a good route - leave Hurst Green via Tanhouse Green, go past the bottom of Tandridge, across the A22, up Tilburstow Hill left at Rabies Heath Road, join A25 for about 200m then right opposite the Pub in Bletchingly (Prince Albert) then follow your nose up and over the hills (including White Hill) till you pop out in Chaldon. Hang a left on here, hang a right on Doctors Lane and up over Farthing Down with the cattle grids. Hang a left at the bottom of the hill, next left at big roundabout and you are at the train station.

Alternatively jump on a train to Sanderstead and cycle up the A23!!!!

Enjoy.

I cycle up from East Grinstead, so I could meet you somewhere along the way, let me know a time and a place and I can shepherd you there if you want.

Cheers

I'm taking a scientific approach  ...well I've just used the speed distance time calculator to work out that you did 17.1428 mph not allowing for your cake stop. impressive  . if you're still as fit as you were do the 17 mph.

Don't worry about your first time. I've been riding with the club for just under a year...a miserable lot... but with a bit of luck you might find someone that'll talk to you.

Have fun, see you Saturday

Well I'm not doing too bad. although I was hit by a BMW in September and had a while off... then when I'd recovered fell off a ladder and landed on my coccyx... and then when I recovered I came off going over a wet metal strip.... and now I'm recovered again! :) ok sounds like excuses for being slow but I've got the bruises to prove it!

Aah, so that's why you were complaining about the fast pace at the meeting point.

I didn't hear you complaining coming into Felbridge on your swanky racing bike, ah yes, thats because you were about a mile behind me, no wonder I cramped up later all the hanging about.

See you on Saturday.

Cheers
