Bike Fitting

Anyone used Cycle Fit or similar, and is it worth it for a bike you already own?

I paid Dauphins at Box Hill quiet a lot of money. About £40. They sat me and my bike on a turbo but I can't remember what method they used.

I then let them sell me a new set of handlebars. Which are fab.

I think Cyclefit are a lot more...I've also had a fit @ Dauphin but was free because I bought a frame from them. They set me up using a plumb line, cleat position etc..

I would recommend Dauphins. They too charged me £40 and then flogged me a new set of bars. They are such a good fit, though, that I insisted Condor put the same ones on my fixie when I bought it.

This is one of the best articles I've read on bike fitting http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/fitting.htm. It's not so much 'how to' as a discussion of why, however many tape measures and spirit levels you have, you really can't beat feel and experience. I'm not saying it's right or wrong (and it doesn't really matter, since the writer is in the USofA and doesn't do fitting any more), but it's quite a good read.

I'll add another recommendation for Dauphin. Got a superb fit for my new toy from them. Mainly plumbline and tape measure on a turbo.

In fairness, no matter how good the fitter, actually being able to go out and ride the bike is another thing altogether. I ride quite a different position to what I was recommended about 3 years ago. Its taken me 3 years to get to what I now feel is a good position. Although many people constantly change their position for whatever reasons. Personally I think every bike I ride from now on will be like my current set up. But I guess you need a good base from which to work on. So have some one look at you. Although Im led to believe Cyclefit do take the piss on price, i.e £100+, so yes, ill add another vote for Dauphin's or Sigma Sport in Kingston.
