Crystal Palace racers...

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Crystal Palace racers...

Postby huw williams » Thu Jan 31, 2008 10:09 am

Help me out here would you guys. I'm working on a coaching module based on racing at a local circuit.

So on an average dry evening at Palace...

How many laps do you normally do?

What is the average lap time at mid-race distance with no breaks away not cahsing etc?

How many seconds does it take to ride up the hill (again mid-peloton rather than when attacking or chasing)?

A decent avergae speed for the entire race

Come on now - be honest :D

Cheers

How many laps do you normally do? I think kieran has HRM data that shows exact number, but i'd say 25-27 in the e12

What is the average lap time at mid-race distance with no breaks away not cahsing etc? 2" is a fast lap, so say 2"10

How many seconds does it take to ride up the hill (again mid-peloton rather than when attacking or chasing)? 30?

A decent avergae speed for the entire race 38-39kmh? we used to post those in the reports a search might help

Come on now - be honest :D

Cheers

Cheeky, I didn't get dropped straight away. (20-30mins in  )

No. of laps = Too many
Lap Time = Too fast
Hill Time = an eternity 8)

I was averaging 22 - 23mph average and if I compared to Stu and co at the front of the race they normally had about 1mph higher, so that matches up nicely with Stu's memory.

Who's the manual for Huw, is it you or Ajay joining the fun at CP this year?

No its part of my BCF coaching module

A little while back (after being rejected for the England job) I decided to make my interest in training matters official, by taking my coaching 'badges'

Whilst we have dozens of excellent coaches in the club (see training forum :D ) not many seem to be qualified, so I've embarked on the long/arduous/expensive task of becoming bona-fide and qualified to talk all that rubbish I normally talk about on the training threads. Actually CW is paying for everything (just as well cos it costs a bloody fortune) as long as I write features about it - so there you go. Soon we'll have an insiders view on how good (if at all) BC coaches really are, and (hopefully) a qualified coach in the club

Apart form the coaching modules I'm also undergoing all sorts of ancilliary education about first aid treatments, group leading skills, and security measures which ascertain whether I'm fit to coach children and animals.
