Yes - I have thought about it - what I have in mind is a combination of what I have seen locally, and done myself in the past.

Roughly speaking it is about having a system in the club where you can train together regularly (more than once a week) and to be able to see yourself making progress within the club ; being able to begin/improve in a discipline and have the opportunity to take it to the next level if you so wish.

I'd suggest putting something on the "Events and Rides" section of the She Cycles Forum, at around the time when you intend organising women's rides.

What about a section heading on the main Forum Index? -"For women riders", or some such? Or would the view be that that's just a bit too separatist? Main value as I see it would be that, through flyers, that could be a good 'women welcome' first-contact message. And women newcomers browsing the Forum could see that we are not all Joe-Serious types. There's a lot of sheer fun in there - look at how long the 'Best Cleanest Jokes' thread ran!

Maria did a great job of publicising what ACC were doing relating specifically to women, and what races were available etc, but as she was pretty much by herself, it had limited impact.

Howver, it's still not clear to me whether or not women want everything to be separated out, or mix it with everyone else - there seems to be conflicting views on this.

I think this needs resolving before there is any publicity drive.

If there's anything practical I can do in support of this then someone let me know. Plan to be at the CR this Saturday so do say hello.

One of the things that I think is important is to have at least one mid-week ride every week for everyone.

This is why I am trying to push the chaingang and promote that. Also when it gets lighter perhaps Andrew and I can push the hilly ride also.

I think is important that people know they can get out and have a go. If we push a ride that is open to everyone in the week. Ok the chaingang is about going fast but this can be split into a faster and slower group if there are more people.

Also it would be good to agree a calendar of long rides (see sportives section) so we can adverstise what we are doing.

So see you all next wednesday!

Im sure those of you have proper jobs are allowed the occasional day off. So why not try and coincide your days of with others, namely Stu, myself or any other ''layabout'' student types.

Many other clubs have weekday rides, because not everyone works mon-fri. For example, just yesterday whilst out with Stu and David we came across a bunch of Dynamo's. So they obviously sort rides out. Why don't you guys...

I think people do post up if they plan to be out on a day off Adam, the problem being it's not always guaranteed to be free at a set time for the ride so you end up playing it by ear.

Gavin, I fancy trying the hilly ride midweek again when it's lighter, well done for flagging these things up again otherwise they very easily drift away or out of people's minds. The hilly one, although full of tough climbs is a good ride for all abilities as we can keep it steady between the hills and then every man and woman for themselves on the hills. Everyone waits and regroups at the top of each hill, and if you are super strong and want some pain you could always do the hills twice (Stu, George :D ).

To the women who are or plan to ride competitively, I thought I'd let you know that a group of us have set up a London women's cycle racing group on Facebook. The aim is to provide better links between women who racers in London and the SE, or those not necessarily in the SE but are interested in the scene.

Basically it's a forum where women racers exchange news and views on racing and training, give tips and can liaise when travelling to races. There are already a few hot topics under discussion. Check it out.

It's only a few days old, so we're building up the membership. At the moment the focus is on road stuff, but as more members join there will be talk of off-road stuff too. We hope plan to keep the site up to date.

By the way, it is set as a closed group so you have to register and only the members will actually see the discussions.

Cheers,

Maria

LOL :P
I haven't read all through the posts here but from the first one. I think something reciprocal with The Striders running club would be a good idea. I am a Strider and have just joined ACC as I am moving into triathlon. There are a few girls there doing the same. We have a swim session and Striders is a friendly club so most people decide to stay rather than move to Crystal Palace Triathlon Club. What about a course or training session on cycling for triathlon? I will certainly be suggesting to the girls I know are interested in cycling that they join ACC. :)
