Eelmore 18th April fun fun fun

Postby JayneToyne » Tue Apr 13, 2004 4:45 pm

Thats right, its all confirmed for the above date.

A splendid day of fun stuff on the Eelmore circuit over by Aldershot.
suitable for anyone who wants to come along with their road bike or hybrid on skinnies.
There will be different training/activities to cater for all abilities from those new to the club and to cycling in general and want a bit more confidence on their bike and for those who are thinking of trying out racing... and of course to anyone who already races and wants a decent workout/training session.

The aim of the day is really about having fun and enjoyment as well as having a decent workout and hopefully improve on some skills along the way.

Your host with the most for the day is Keith "ello there mate" Knight
and the coach will be Jayne ( thats me) Toyne.

theres loads of space on the circuit so virtually unlimited numbers when it comes to getting as many who want to come along on there. SO arrange lifts between yourselves or head over to Aldershot train station.
The day starts at 10am, with a safety briefing and signing in. Please try to be there in time for the start to save me having to go over the safety briefing 20 times.

Theres been plenty of interest so far, but the more the merrier.
for directions.. ask keith, he knows the route over there like the back of his hand... shame he was looking at the back of my hand last time we drove over there and had us driving in ever decreasing circles looking for the place. ( it was getting dusk and his eyes dont work so well at his age... )

hope to see lots of you ACC'ers there.

Directions would be really useful if you could put them up, even a post code close by would help so I can look up on the internet.

Cheers

Found on the Surrey League site:

Eelmore Military Driver Training Circuit is located on the A323 (Aldershot to Fleet road) approximately 1 mile outside of Aldershot on the left hand side. There will not be any signs posting the event, but the circuit can easily be seen from the main road (A323). If in doubt, find the Airborne Forces Museum with the Dakota aircraft outside and head towards Fleet from there, it is approximately 1 mile on the left hand side!

still no idea on numbers but Ive been sending maps out and replying to emails, I think keith has replied to lots as well.

I want to get as many ACC'ers down there as possible.

doesnt matter how good (or bad) a cyclist you think you are there is something planned for everyone.

if you have a nervous otherhalf who wants to see what the fuss is all about, then bring her/him along as well.
Same goes for youths, if there's any youths in the family or any who read this, everyone is welcome.

I will do my best to accomodate allcomers into the day.

(of course, it wouldnt be a toyney coaching session without a bit of friendly competition... so if you are a racer or want to be, then you wont get off lightly by tootling around all day whistling dixie)

Well good to get to know some of the 'Roadie' contingent of Acc!. Great day if a little damp.

Good to have some proper coaching as havent been pushed like that for ages.

Only recommendations Id make are:

More Attendees! (come on it was onlya bit of rain)
Maybe a few beers afterwards?

Yeah, It was a great day out in sunny Ashtead.
The rain was annoying and made it hard for glasses wearers to actually see but it was also quite challenging and a laugh when you got used to it.

Once we got warmed up the riding was fun and we certainly worked hard.

Thanks to Keith and Jayne for their organisation and track sweeping and ofcourse to Jayne for the coaching, keep it up.

Look forward to the opportunity to come again.

Next time we need more, of all abilities and weather preferences...

Thanks to all who turned out on such a wet day. I was slightly bemused by how many of you didnt bring a waterproof and rode in just jersey and gillet!

Having more people there would certainly have helped the session by being able to group people of more closely matched ability.
As it was, I ended up having to work everyone fairly hard just to keep them from getting Hypothermia.

There was so much I didnt get a chance to do because the weather was too cold so hopefully next time, at the next session, when its sunny there will be a chance to do more interesting stuff.

Also want to say how brave it was for Rina to turn out for her first ride with Addiscombe, having never met any of us she drove all the way to Aldershot and joined the session and rode really well. I think Rina has loads of grit for doing that and I hope to see her again soon on some more rides.

Me too.

Rina was doing great in the through and off and showed loads of determination and a big grin throughout.

Perhaps that could have been because she was surrounded by so many gorgeous men all morning and my shorts were going see through in the wet!!!!! Well maybe not...
