Helmets and membership cards

Came round on Saturday afternoon in Redhill A & E missing a couple of hours of my life.

Apparently I came off on the A25 near Buckland. No idea what happened. Did have a helmet on, thankfully, although I sometimes don't especially if I'm out on my own and I feel like wearing a woolly hat instead. End result was a fractured cheekbone and a stiff neck.

Cleverly the ACC membership card has emergency contact details on it. I filled this in and put it in my wallet. Only problem is I don't take my wallet with me on a bike. Not very useful then. When you are lying on a trolley in a neck brace trying to remember a mobile phone number is tricky to say the least. I had my mobile, but that smashed in the crash. I'm now gonna fix ICE details to the back of my phone.

Ouch. Looks painfull, hope you have speedy recovery.

Im just like you, will often wear a woolly hat when Im out on my own, like my dad says though 'a woolly hat wont protect your bonce if you have a crash'. He loves hearing about my cycling as he was a great cyclist himself but if I ever mention I dont wear a helmet he goes mad.

After hearing about the spills on the club run on saturday and now yours I'll always wear my helmet, better to be safe than sorry.

Jim, that hurts just looking at it. I hope the eye is ok. I was with you on the 19mph club run, Did this happen on your way home? Seems some others came off black ice that morning as well. Best of luck for a speedy and complete recovery.

How about (also) applying decals with ICE details on the top tube of a bike.

Just to say that the emergency services advised putting emergency contact numbers under the entry ICE (in case of emergency) and then the name of the person on your mobile phone. It means the emergency services don't need to guess who to call.

Somewhere on a forum, maybe this one- had a link to a road id type thingy- better this than a free T shirt i say. Any ideas?

Good idea Ian. I have one of those padded bag things for my mobile to stop it getting sweaty which has a very handy zipped pocket on it so I keep my membership card in that - I tend not to need it any time I'm not on the bike.

If nothing else you could always use one of [url=http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=13&pf_id=0173]these[/url] and clip it on one of the saddle rails.
