well an intresting club run for me, from what i remember of it

just paul marek and myself for the training group. marek was going strong and so was paul. i was feeling good today, but ive had a heavy week, and i DID have another heavy few days planned so i took it fairly easy, not doing much work on the front. paul and marek must have thought i was not feeling good today as they kept attacking whenever i got on the front. i was going to tell them i was fine, but i was rather enjoying it, and i knew it would wear them down for the sprint- that is if i ever made it !

my memory is still a bit hazy about what happened, but i remember my wheels slipping out, and then sitting on the grass with an aching face and head. i didnt mind about the crash but then worryingly i didnt have a clue where i was. i knew i should know, but i just couldnt work it out. then i tried to think back to the ride but i could hardly remember any of it, it seemed like i had done it all drunk or dreamed it. also a bit worringly my vision was a bit blury. after a while the 19s came along and i think ray crashed in the same place i did.

pretty soon the ambulance came, but i dont remember much of the journey, when they asked me what month it was i was clueless i still felt drunk! got to hospital and i started to get my senses back, and my pupils started to react again. got strapped up to all the machinery for monitering, and my heart rate was at a chushtie 39 8) . they were going to keep me in over night. after 3 hours i couldnt take it any more and i asked the doctor if i could go home, as my mum was a a nurse and could look after me. he would only let me go if i could pass a few tests, which i did just about.

so now im at home with a couple of days of RR in store...great

my memory is coming back slowly of the ride, but looking back its still like trying to remember a drunk night on the town, but this time my headache is 10x worse.

how was ray in the end, and were our bikes damaged?

cheers for the help guys.

Heard about your off from Paul via George. Glad you're okay although should you know what it feels like to be that drunk yet :D . From what Paul told George it sounded as though they might have been a layer of slippery mud on the bend, I guess if you hit it with the bike at an angle the front wheel would just slide out like on gravel or ice.

I got off lightly Stu, just a bruised thumb and a bit of road rash (bl**dy hurt in the shower though)

Aside from the splill the 19's group was a good run with everyone taking plenty of turns on the front.

Felt quite good today, with only 3 in the training group it was hard work and as I was feeling good I decided to do a fair bit of work. Paul and I were trying to haul Stu over as he was not taking his turn, but we did not have much luck. I was feeling really good until we hit the hill just before the dual carriageway and all my earlier efforts started to take their toll and I started to slow a bit. On the dual carriageway we were not going that fast and I was still struggling to do my turns.

Off the dual carriageway and onto Ifield Lane, then on the roundabout just after Ifield Stu was on the front, and he suddenly lost it as he went around the second half of the roundabout, the road was quite slippy, probably due to a bit of mud or oil from the traffic that has been using that roundabout with the build of the new houses on the left.

Paul shouted out to attack again as Stu was down, we almost went for it but decided that maybe we should do the sportsman thing and go and scrape him off the floor.

Stus head had hit the floor and it looked at though his helmet hit first and then his cheek took a bit of an impact. I took the opportunity to practice my nursing skills and squirted half a bottle of water all over Stu, that seemed to wake him up a bit, but then he lost his memory. Not sure if it was the bang on his head or the shock of the very cold water I was carrying. 8)

Paul and I decided that as Stu was in a bad way,he would probably slow us down, so we phoned an ambulance to come and pick him up. While we were waiting for the ambulance Ray and his group came steaming around the roundabout. Paul shouted be careful, this spooked Ray and he went down in almost exactly the same way as Stu, except he managed to avoid bumping anything too hard.

Hal kindly rode back to the cafe with Stus bike in tow, very skillful whilst we tried to phone Stus parents. Lots of people in the cafe, nice cup of coffee and some toast and then headed back to Merstham. Met Antloony for the first time, he is pretty quick, we had a good head to head through the lanes. I tried to persuade him to take the step up to the training group, I think he is thinking about it.

Good run back to Merstham where I turned off for my lonesome ride back to EG. 120km, fun ride, but legs are feeling it now.

Hope you don't stiffen up too much Stu, and if you are going to remember anything for next time, then remember to slow down on that roundabout.

Cheers

Marek.....

Stu I would have thought that while at the hospital you might have asked to pass some vo2 tests!

Glad you're ok that would have been awful if you'd have to have time off the bike with the season just around the corner.

Ray and Stu, I will try not to crash on my mtb training ride tomorrow :D

Glad that you are starting to feel better. We took your bike back to the cafe. Phil Nash had drivend down so he's got it at the moment. He's busy tomorrow but will drop it round on Monday as he works nearby. You may want to PM him to arrange details.

There didn't appear to be any serious damage that wasn't there before the crash :) just a few scuff marks. Though the real wheel bearing are very loose and it is very dirty!

Other wise the 19's had a really good ride down some good rotations going on and a nice tasty pace. I took advantage of the sunshine and rode back via Colgate, Handcross, Turners Hill, Outwood and back down farthing down. Longest ride of the year so far.
