MTB training ride Sunday 10th (provisional)

Postby Sylv » Fri Feb 08, 2008 6:14 pm

We're not going to get a team together for the cyclocross champs, so I am planning to do a quick mtb training ride on Sunday. How fast it is might depend on whether I do Hillingdon or the clubrun tomorrow (though it is debatable which is the hardest ...).

Idea would be to met at East Croydon station at 10am and head of to the Wall of Death on a non-stop loop which is about 40-45km mostly off-road and take 2-2h30 so back for late lunch. It should be dry and nice weather.

I will confirm here tomorrow though, in the meantime if you are interested please post here.

Sorry Sylv, came off my bike today (same place as Stu) and bruised my thumb (too painful to change gear), up for a ride next time though (probably need to give it a couple of weeks though)

Sylv, do you want to go out to Swinley Forest tomorrow? I'm meeting a few of the Chilterns guys there and we are going to either ride the race course from a couple of weeks ago, or out to the (in)famous Fenceline trail.

I can pick you up at about quater to nine if you want to go.

OK. See you tomorrow morning at quarter to early (but not as early as the fools going out to do the Old Ports ride)

Pretty perfect ride, about ten of us altogether set off from the Look Out centre in Bracknell at 10.30, we took some great flowing trails moslty singletrack, it sooned warmed up and off went the legwarmers and Buff, the pace was decent despite the big group and mechanicals (a front mech which plate parted company with it, the obligatory puncture and a twisted chain that needed six links amputated), I counted four titanium hardtails and only one full-suspension, wished I'd had my camera as some of the scenery was superb with the low sun over meadows and canals, we took in a couple of the Gorrich courses, and clocked in just under 30 miles in just under 3 hours of riding, cheers Grahame that was definitely better than a solo ride to the Wall of Death :D

Sorry Slyv, just catching up with this. I've been away for the last week (skiing) so just seeing this now. Let me know if you're planning any more training type MTB rides in the future. If you want a change the box hill loop through epsom is also an option (about 50k, 2.5-3hrs if the going is good).

Cool how was the skiing? I have literally just found out that I will be able to do the cross-country ski race in Sweden in two weeks (though I have zero km training), and next week is the Gorrick race (should be a good course if you fancy it?). In March there's three road races I've entered, so not sure when is the next opportunity but will let you know.

Skiing was excellent (Val d'Isere), an ideal mix of snowfall and sunshine meant there was plenty scope to mess about on and between the pistes. Also, Keith and Michelle came over the mountain from Tignes for a day so we had an ACC day out on the slopes.

Gorrick sounds interesting, i've always intended to do one so this might be it. Can you enter on the day, beastway style, or is it more formal ?
