Your first records - honestly!

Postby Andrew G » Fri Feb 15, 2008 11:23 am

Watching Ashes to Ashes, and loving it. I'm sure a lot of us grew up in the 80s, or you were young things about town at the time, so the music brings back so many memories.

Time to embarass yourself :D .

What were the first records you bought yourself and owned (probably a present). Probably played on a Music Centre 8)
(for Adam, Stu, and Mo a record looks like a big CD made out of black plastic  ).

1st owned: (7") Joe Dolce - Shaddup You Face (given a reprise in episode 1)
1st bought: (7") Tight Fit - The Lion Sleeps Tonight (I wasn't alone it was a no.1)
1st Album bought: (Cassette) Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Flaunt It!

Plenty of  , , and  there. Your turn to publicly shame yourselves.

1st 7" I ever bought was Dr Feelgood - Milk and Alcohol. Remember it as it was on brown vinyl.

1st album was The Stranglers - Black and White. Still play it today.

1st cassette Diana Ross and The Supremes - Greatest Hits.....didn't strictly buy this, I 'borrowed' it out of a car that was parked up and had its window wide open at 3 in the morning, I was about 13 at the time.

I'm not that young Andrew, I do know at least what they look like!

Can't say I have ever purchased one myself. Although, the first ''album'' I bought was... on cassette... in 1995... '(Whats the story) Morining Glory?' By the greatest band of the 90s Oasis!

Now the first CD I bought, in 1999 was... 'Synkronised' by Jamiroquai

First "45 tours" -

Aha Take on me - actually I think I wanted Take on me, but couldn't find it so got their following single - it was sh*t

Téléphone Un autre monde - best (only?) French rock band at the time, songs still gives me shivers when I hear it.

First "33 tours" -

Dire Straits Making movies - this was found by a friend and I in a caddie outside the tills of a supermarket - hence it was not technically stolen, someone who bought it must have forgotten it. We had great laughs playing the Waltz intro of Romeo and Juliette at 45 rpm :-)

Tears for Fears Songs from the big chair - bought for the obvious singles, but some of the more sombre songs on this were actually really good. It was my uncle who was in new-wave music at the time - Simple Minds, Sisters of Mercy, Cure etc ..

First "cassettes" - Renaud, Indochine, Talk Talk

First CDs - Tribe Abort - Ah, Janet Lavalley ...

She cropped up in The Observer magazine only last Sunday - looking better than she did as a 'willowy' teen. Or maybe it's just that my tastes have matured with me

Isn't she married to Johnny Depp? (Vanessa Paradis, not Sylv's mum)

Me too - either the black side or the white side, to suit my mood
