Thanks Huw and Marco for the encouragment. Thats it, time to step up to a faster group then. I'll think nothing of going out on my own and doing 50 miles at a 20mph average pace, just worried I'll be dropped by the fast group when the pace picks up. I was planning to try my hand at a couple of TT's so will stick with that and also try to get my rear end over to Hillingdon and have a thrash round there. Just waiting for the test results back from the quacks today after my scare on wedenesday. Looks like it was a case of hematuria, brought on after over doing it a little over the past week and not drinking enough.

Dude if u can manage 50 miles @ 20mph by yourself on a road bike you'll probably be shocked at how slow 4th cat racing is and I doubt you'll be dropped by the training group; well any more than anyone else is.

Get racing immediately!

Hope all is well with the doctor, I tend to get ill myeslf if I drink less than about 4/5 bottles of scotch in a week

If you can do that, you'll be at least 2/3 cat standard! People have had this argument on here before about whether you can average this or that. But from what I've heard, you'll be fine...

Glad you're better. Having ridden with you a few times lately on some tough routes you'd be easily able to start racing. Should be very comfy in a 4th cat race at Hillingdon from what I've heard, and you'd probably be fine at Palace. The first few races are a shock with the speed straight away if you've only done club runs, and also the actual racing rather than just riding in a group, but after a couple you're at least ready for it to happen that way.

Plenty of ACC do Palace so you'd be assured of company from others in the club. At Palace if you can try and follow Kieran's wheel you'll learn a lot very quickly about how to race and where to be.

[quote]Quite a lardy 76kilos at the moment due to lack of miles out there on the bike. Racing weight, and therefore target is 70Kg. Have been steadily shedding pounds since Christmas and should reach target by May 11.

Well, the plan is working - 73.9kg this morning :D . A few long steady rides does the job.
