I think I will, joining the 18s or 19s as racing on Sunday. I'll bring the front mech Antloony.

Not at all Huw. I had hematuria, caused by over doing it really and not drinking enough. Been working really long hours over the past 3 weeks and then cycling all weekend every weekend, just didn't pay enough attention to my body saying slow down thats all. All seems fine now, just have to be carefull over the next week or two. More about it here.

Glad to hear it was nothing more sinister
That is quite rare, you should feel honoured :D - and a bit scary initially as the symptoms present similar to far worse conditions where blood gets into the urine.
With the rate of progress you've made, have a week or so easy to recover and you'll be really strong for the start of the season - and drink more obviously.

Superb ride, decided against Grahame's advice (sorry!) and went with the 19's. :)
Now either my watch isn't working.... or that was a trifle quicker than 19!

Once my fingers had warmed up after the icy start was a great brisk run. Twice I seemed to get dropped right through the group and off the back each time I came off the front. :( Guess I need to perfect that!Managed to quickly claw back the gap the first time it happened, but just couldn't the second time (coming up towards Rusper I think? anyone know?) Pedalled like a demon to get back (33 on the speedo) but had lost sight of the group and couldn't be sure I hadn't gone the wrong way since I didn't know the route. Then recognised the road we went up last time it was icy - Hillybarn Road - and meandered towards the Cafe....
Then, just as I put my foot down to stop at a junction. Agony! As I somehow managed to pull my left calf muscle and cruised the final stretch towards a bacon sandwich with one pedal!
Thought everyone else would already be back but was surprised to be at the head of the queue. :)

Great fun and an excellent ride.

No problem there Orv. The secret to staying on after your turn at the front is, basically, to get off the front a little bit earlier so you have enough in the tank to stay in the group whilst you recover.

Today was another trip out with the 17s. A fairly large group (13 I think) who all stayed together pretty well, even though it was a bit more ragged than I'd like (we need to ride in definite lines and closer to the wheel in front, gentlemen). But it wasn't bad for a group with at least 4 people who were new to group cycling in it. We took the Rusper extension (not up Hillybarn lane, we gambled that the ice would be less bad than 2 weeks ago) and I volunteered to lead out the sprint - ie I didn't have the legs, or more truthfully the lungs, for a sprint. That tactic seemed to work with the group spread along the road behind the lead out pair until after the (dangerous) last corner. After that I was fried just like the bacon in my delicious french stick at the cafe. We'd averaged just over 18mph to this point  , but not dropped anybody, and the feedback was positive. Note to those in the 16mph group - don't be afraid to step up to the 17mph group, we'll not drop you if you can sit in at 17mph average.

Good natter and nosh in the cafe, then I got toasted on the way back into the slightest of headwinds. More coffee and natter at Regelino's and a struggle home to a chip buttie and the sofa.

Bliss. Should I go mountainbiking tomorrow?

Great ride with the 15's today.
Ably assisted by Grahame, the group included a newbie, Mark, who signed up to join the Club by the time we got to Charlwood!!
Just 6 of us today, that is until we met up with the Club's most senior citizen, Jim, who was on his way riding down to Steyning to watch a mate race.
We had the pleasure of his company until just before Rusper where he headed off towards Horsham.
Great ride, good steady pace, and good company.
See you all next week.

Rode in the 17s group with Grahame today as I have more or less since joining in December.

The second week running that the group has arrived at Charlwood at an average of just over 18. Spent too long on the front last week and suffered approaching Rusper, but much more even this week after taking Grahame's advice not to stay on the front when you're tiring.

We had the world's hardest cyclist in our group today, wearing a short sleeved Pearl Izumi top with no gloves, which made me feel a little over dressed with my 2 pairs of gloves!

As Grahame said, a little ragged today at times, but a good run and ended up as the second lead out on the approach to Charlwood into a headwind. Thought I was ready to sprint for the gates, but suddenly 3 flew past us and that was that.

Banana and cherry cake for me, followed by a free T-shirt and a polite enquiry about the state of Antloony's urine, then a blast back up Meath Green Lane before splitting off at Woodhatch and returning home to Horley.

Hoping to do the Sydenham Wheelers ride tomorrow. I'm wondering if I can descend Star Hill without laughing at Snoop Doug's description of his descent on the Hell of the Ashdown.

I thought the hardest cyclist was Chloe with her short shorts

Mind you, it got some of the blokes hot under the collar... (Jon, at your age, too :D )

funny, not many write-ups on the Hilly 50 except George's :D
