Yale or Chubb ?

Postby djembi » Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:40 pm

In my pursuit to save some weight I have discovered that your standard 5 lever Chubb key is quite heavy in comparison to your Yale and I wondered if anyone knew whether leaving the house without locking the Chubb lock would affect my insurance.
I've tried leaving the front door on the latch but if it's windy the door sometimes opens. There is a 18 gms saving here. :?

Lock the chubb and then leave both keys under a stone in the garden. Even more weight saved.

I have just been thinking, if you meant one of those bottle gardens, might be quite tricky to get the keys out

If you leave either house key in the garden the added weight on your conscience will be more than that of a key.

Go high-tech and install a fingerprint or iris recognition system on your front door; no need to carry any keys.

Humour aside I would strongly caution against this.
My nextdoor neighboor was burgled when they left only their Yale lock on.
(the burglar overcame the yale lock in the front door).

Marco, I can only see a red cross in your post whilst I'm at work. Would that be the well known "get into a house with a credit card" method?

Kind of scary but also not surprising I suppose.
Handy if I ever forget my keys!

Having lived in my fair share of rum rented place in London you might also want to consider:
