Regardless of where they came from, they were arseholes.

Anyhow, spent an hour in the Police station this morning. The officer said that the controller I spoke to yesterday was out of order for not sending a car and an ambulance to attend the scene. Say's a lot doesn't it. Who says Surrey Police try to avoid reporting anything!? Anyway, the officers in the station were very helpful and sympathetic while going through it all with me. So the case is now passed to the Road Accident Investigation Dept. which is ironically in Reigate! Anyhow, they will hopefully be in contact by the end of the week, so perhaps we may make some progress. I think the dificulty will be proving it though somehow.

The officers in the station recommend that in future, I or anyone calls 999 straight away and demand a car and an ambulance to be sent regardless of how bad you 'think' your hurt, or whether the offending vehicle stops or not. This way the records get started up straight away. There was no record of my call yesterday at all, apparently there should have been.

Anyway, I well and truly stuck up my middle finger to the van men this afternoon. I dusted off the Trek and got right back out there. When I woke up this morning I was really suprised that my knee actually felt much better than last night, I was expecting it to have ceased up good and proper, like! So I rolled around for an hour or so over to Cheam then back over by Epsom Downs before home. I was actually able to put a fairly normal amount of pressure on the knee and it was fine. The only reason I really noticed it was the big dressing bulging through the leg warmers! Oh and every time the inside of the knee brushed the top tube, I knew about it, its still very bruised! But really I felt pretty good considering. So I'll hopefully do some more tomorow and maybe even get back to my interval sessions by Wednesday!

This incident will not stop me winning again...

Glad you can ride OK, Adam. Tonnes of time to get better this seaon even if you need to take a bit of time off, without it having any impact on your overall season.

Toks, you're not going all PC on us are you.....? Huw's response is straight from the dictionary of urban slang where a number of similar definitions can be found. If you ever watch Top Gear or Catherine Tate show (on the BBC no less!) or others, it's clear that pikey is in common use and is not a racial term.

However, for the record, I'd like to take the opportunity to apologise to any pikeys in the club. In return, if they could take the first opportunity to go down their nearest post-office to renew their tax disc and buy some car insurance, we'll be hearing no more of it.

Nah not at all mate :) I'm definitley not part of any PC brigade. To be honest I thought 'pikey' was a rather derogatory term for 'gypsies' and wondered why or how you'd come to the conclusion it was them on the strength of no evidence  ...Getting back to the issue the people that did this to Adam were definitley scumbag arsoles and I hope they get what's coming to them.

Adam,

Home insurance should cover you for this. I had a minor incident a couple of years ago. I had to replace a few parts but also claimed for clothing etc as ripped my gloves and shorts etc. My home insurance paid for everything and I think I paid something like £20 a year to put my bike on the insurance.

If you have contents insurance and your bike is worth less than £1500 you should be covered without the bike being named. The extra £20 was what I paid to put on my racing bike which is worth a little more than £1500. I was with the Halifax at that time.

Cheers

Marek....

Nice one Marek, just spoke to my Dad and funnily enough we have Halifax for contents cover too!

He's going to work on them tomorow... Does entail a £40 excess I think, but then they will pay up to £500, which I can easily spend on Forks, a Wheel, a Saddle, Assos bibs to replace the now ripped ones etc.

Marco, regarding the Police I am quite keen to make sure they find them. I am going to harass them, politely, until I get a satisfactory conclusion. I am also intending to call BC tomorow (I can already hear some of you scoffing at this), but I would like them to lean on Surrey Police a little to encourage them if you know what I mean. It can only help. As the membership/license package is still on my desk I thought I might as well get them working for my money huh!

Correct

It's A No-Brainer people!!!

Call an ambulance for even the slightest crash/injury
Imagine a rider goes down, hits head, insisits he's only a bit shaken, minor cuts and bruises rides home cos its only a couple of miles. You don't bother with a 999 call
An hour later the guy dies from an internal head injury. You can't live with your conscious for the rest of your life and at the inquest you have to stand up in front of the jury and the guy's relatives to explain that you didn't call an ambulance because you didn't want to be 30 mins late home. How's that gonna feel for the rest of your life?

It's a fairly unlikely scenario but it happens. Don't take the risk. Ambulance drivers and paramadeics get paid to attend calls and sort things like this out - they like nothing more than attending and finding its not too serious after all so don't be afraid to call them. And in the event of insurance claims you have some kind of record of the incident
