Like the rest of us then you probably loved Miki

We used to trawl around the Camden scene in the early 90s with that crowd (a couple of elasticas, Echobellys, The Family Cat and Louise Wener from Sleeper)
I still think Lush's song Ladykillers is THE seminal feminist rock song OF ALL TIME. Imagine my surprise when I found her working in marketing up at IPCs head office a couple of years ago.
I was living in a housing assosciation town house in Belsize Park at the time and in the flat above were Harriet Wheeler and Dave Gavurin of The Sundays - very Bohemian we were 8) 8) 8) used to have roof parties, the lot!
I See Miki once a year at the editorial awards and we catch up - A while back she said that Lush were looking to go back on tour but I don't know if they ever did

I lived in Camden in 92-93 while at college and so must have bumped into you in the Good Mixer at some point! I was more grunge than shoegazer though. One of my male friends was absolutely obsessed with Miki - he dyed his hair to match hers

Justine from Elastica was an occasional guest critic on my architecture course. She once told me I hadn't done enough work - bit much I thought given their output.

Very interesting post. Our paths must have crossed more than a few times, Huw, because I saw The Family Cat countless times, everywhere from the Jug in Doncaster to the Old Trout in Windsor. Fantastic live band whose quality never quite transferred onto vinyl. Great T-shirts, and a nice bunch of lads as well. Surely the best band to have come out of Cornwall?

Saw Lush quite a few times as well - from quite early on right up until shortly before Chris Ackland's (sp?) suicide. Always preferred Emma myself (even if she was a Spurs fan).

And did I mention that I bumped into Harriet and Dave at the Tate Modern recently? Another quality live act.

Awesome - The Family Cat were THE biggest band never to make it big - saw them hundereds of times and I've still got a demo cassette that Fred gave me before they recorded their first album which has got unreleased tracks on it :D

Its the little things in life that sometimes make the biggest impression. I was in Harriet's kitchen once when she was making us dinner and she was singing 'here's where the story ends' - which in THAT voice is about the sweetest thing you could ever imagine. A few months later she was singing it for thousands with the band at the Union Chapel but I'll always remember her solo 'roast potato mix' with the most affection :D

They always seemed to be hampered by sh1t production, particularly on the first album and the first couple of singles - arguably their best stuff. I remember taking a couple of friends along to see them somewhere in Kemp Town - these two were highly sceptical after hearing the records, but within a couple of bars of ''Final Mistake' they'd made their way down the front and were going mental - instant converts!

It's only relatively recently that my Cat T-shirts got so threadbare and obscene that they were relegated to car/bike-cleaning duties. They gave me years of good service - loads of people would come up and ask about them or have a Family Cat story to share.

I'm sure Travis fans would have had similar experiences
