Sent a link to this thread to Miki with a request for info as to whether they're still playing - she asked me to post this:

[color=#0040FF]"That's so sweet!
No - we haven't played for over a decade, I'm afraid. Funnily enough Phil (Lush's bass player) is currently touring with the reformed and revived Jesus and Mary Chain and he said he thought it would be a great idea for us to do some gigs in the same vein.
I guess if someone offered me enough of a financial incentive I might think about it, but I don't know how likely that is!

Thanks for the loyalty and support, though!

And she's well impressed with the fact that a cycling forum is discussing 90s indie feminist rock anthems too:

For those who don't know it, here's her lyrics

[color=#0040FF]Here we go, I'm hanging out in Camden, Drinking with my girlfriends on a Saturday night
This guy says, "come and meet my girlfriend" She's sitting in the corner looking rather uptight
So I say "hello" and I try to be nice, But I see he's feeling itchy
Trying to play us off each other, "Girls, girls, please don't fight"
(you get the picture)

Hey you, the muscles and the long hair, Telling me that women are superior to men
Most guys just don't appreciate this, You just try convincing me you're better than them
So he talks for hours 'bout his sensitive soul, And his favourite subject is sex
I don't think he even really wanted it, But, Christ, this guy's too much
(I wanna tell him)

I'm as human as the next girl, I like a bit of flattery, But I don't need your practised lines, your school of charm mentality so
Save your breath for someone else and credit me with something more, When it comes to men like you, I know the score, I've heard it all before
(Here comes the next one)

Blondie was with me for a summer, He flirted like a maniac but I wouldn't bite
I'm weak and he was so persistent, He only had to have me 'cause I put up a fight
Oh God, the boy had such an ego, He liked to talk about himself all day and all night
You think you're such a ladykiller, But you were nothing special 'til you turned out the light
When he's nice to me he's just nice to himself And he's watching his reflection
I'm a five foot mirror for adoring himself Here's seven years' bad luck
(I wanna tell him)

When you say you love me you're just flattering your vanity, But I don't need your practised lines, your school of charm mentality so
Save your breath for someone else and credit me with something more, When it comes to men like you, I know the score, I've heard it all before

Ooh, you're such a ladykiller, always on a winner, thinking that you're in there, Oh boy, you're such a ladykiller, super sexy mister, call it what you will, oh
You think you're such a ladykiller, I just bet you're still there, posing in the mirror, Hey girls, he's such a ladykiller, but we know where he's coming from and we know the score.

I've seen men wither when that's been played :D and if I'd written that before I was 30 I think I'd be pretty content with where my career was going.

Emma was no slouch in this department, either. Witness this excerpt from 'Single Girl':

# Don't want to clean up your mess again tonight
Don't want to be in a fight
And I can do what I want again tonight
With who I choose, it's alright

Single girl, I just want to be a single girl #

Those gals must have just laughed (or cried) when the Spice Girls came along with their male, corporate take on 'girl power'.

Nah - I'm not really a great believer in re-union gigs

I've been having an email conversation with Miki about this all morning and she's quite mercenary about it - she'll only do it for the money to support her kids - reckons any band who think they genuinely have anything ot offer having not been together for more than 10 years is delluding themselves

If I've seen great bands in their prime I like to remember them that way. Its a bit sad to think so many people will think of Led Zeppelin as a bunch of ageing rock- dinosaurs because the only time they got to see them was at the 02 gig recently. Don't believe the claims that they 'were as good as ever' - I've seen/heard some of the footage and it was bloody awfull compared to what they were like in the 70s.

Saw Primal Scream and MBV at Brixton in the early 90s and it was awesome - don't want to spoil my image of them now and pay £50 for the privilage :(

Completely agree. I saw the Buzzcocks (with Mike Joyce on drums) in the early '90s and although they could play better than they could in the late '70s, it was just... wrong - the moment had long since gone. For the same reason I was always glad the Undertones never did anything like that - at least not the original line-up - Feargal had at least that much sense. (BTW, fact fans, D O'Neill now lives two doors away from my best man, in Honor Oak.)

I saw MBV at ULU once - not sure my hearing has ever been the same since

The worst ever must've been that Pistols gig in Finsbury Park - the most devout former punks were walking out in embarassment and I hear that John Lydon is considering doing another one!

Yep - 1981ish supporting Echo & the Bunnymen - very good too - they made a lot of headlines at the time cos frontman Adrian Borland kept going off the rails - I think he killed himself years later

"going off the rails" - hopefully no pun intended as he jumped in front on a train in Wimbledon in April '99.

That's another band worthy of success they didn't have.

Few years ago I happened to mention their name on the singletrackworld forum, and someone who said they were the drummer replied to the post
