Due to bad Weather the spring league didn't go quite according to plan

However

fingers crossed this Saturday should see the Start of the Summer Track league

The league starts Saturday at 2pm and continues every Monday and Wednesday from then on. You can choose to race either Monday nights or Wednesday nights whatever suits you and if your really rich and can afford to enter both then goodluck and I might be seeing you about a loan.

It would be nice to get a list together of everyone who plans to race to make it easier for me to keep track of there progress for feed back etc

So If you can add your name and your e-mail then that will be great or e-mail me direct

mailto;simon.johnson@rbkc.gov.uk;simjamjo@aol.com

Cheers

:D

Give it a go

Postby andycarter » Fri May 07, 2004 10:51 am

I'm really wanting to give everything a go this year. But I don't have a track bike, never ridden on a track or in a race before. So where do I start?

start early on a saturday mornng at herne hill with the a novice training session. you can hire a bike there too, although if you plan to race its better to get your own, you can pick them quite cheaply second hand.

i plan on racing as many mondays and wednesdays as i can afford.
its all quite expensive to do everything, especially when im racing most saturdays and/or sundays as well. wednesday will be the main day i aim for and if im feeling rich or havent raced the previous weekend i will do the mondays as well.

my new track bike arrived this week. took it for a little tickle last night at HH in the derny training session. im racing tomorrow at welwyn so guess i better make sure nothings come lose and ready to fall off.

Don't be daft, that can't be Jayne, VCL colours are red and blue, not plain red.

what time do you have to get there (renting a bike)?

I'l be there Jayne, the new Ridley track bike has arrived and is looking fast.
My legs might not be able to keep up tho as I will be attempting to go 2 from 2 at the Palace the night before.

I've put a 92 inch gear on, will that be enough?
I'll be taking an 88 & 94 as well.

yeah 92 should be ok, you might want a 90 in case its windy. 88 is also handy. ( i use 88 when its not too windy or 86 for devil and stuff like that)but you will only know from trying different gears what suits you., some people pedal fast and prefer a smaller gear they can spin and others like a bigger gear and push it.

glad to hear your bike arrived so quickly. look forward to seeing it in action

Racing starts 7.00pm. Best to get there a bit early to register, sign on and warm up.

Two agreeables there last night, Chris Colford and myself. No results to speak of although Chris was the clear winner of the most aggressive rider prize.

In the Scratch/Devil he went away on the first lap and was not caught until the eighth lap. Unfortunately he could not get up for the sprint and was eliminated just outside the placings. It was highly entertaining watching (from the centre having been eliminated much earlier) Chris try to hang on and almost make it.
